Seemingly unknown is if Kim actually has the power to act against the will of very old men in positions of power, of opposition. These old men would be the north Korean conservatives, the force that can not tolerate any change.

These old men believe that they can act as always, come to the table, make some promises, take the concession money, revert to the status quo.

Also unknown is if Kim wants to maintain the status quo or if he genuinely wants to bring bout change. President Trump gave Kim the benefit of the doubt until the meeting in Hanoi.

I think it was these old men that lost face in Hanoi

But, I do not know

That’s the way I see it. It think there is a pretty big internal struggle with in the leadership. If NK backs off it’s military, especially nuclear, a lot of military big shots won’t have a job. They are trying to preserve the status quo. Kim not so much.
