A man was reportedly attacked with a hammer outside a mosque in London just hours after a deadly attack on two mosques in New Zealand.
British news outlet The Independent reported three men shouted Islamophobic slurs as they drove past a mosque in East London, calling worshippers terrorists.
When people chased after the car, the men exited and attacked a man with a weapon reported to be a hammer.
Police confirmed to the news outlet that a 27-year-old victim of the attack suffered head injuries.
A fight between the two groups ensued before the car sped off.
"The suspects returned to their car and left the scene before police arrived," a spokesperson for London's Metropolitan Police told the news outlet.
Police said the suspects were described as white men in their twenties.
The man who was attacked was driven to the hospital but was not treated for his injuries as he was combative with staff.
"However, he was abusive towards hospital staff, and left the hospital without being treated,” police said. “Investigations are ongoing and officers have not identified any motive for the attack."
Mosques around the world were on high alert Friday with extra security following a deadly attack in New Zealand on two mosques that left at least 49 people dead.

London has changed very fast over the last 10 years.
Not everyone is on board with the new immigrants.
