The right to keep and bear arms contains and is inseparable from the right NOT to do so.

“My parents bought me my first .22 when I was six, and I remember walking to the store in ‘67 with two quarters to buy 50 rounds. I could barely see over the counter, but there weren’t any questions and sales tax didn’t exist then either. Now, 52 years later, I have to show a government issued ID to“ I’m 73 years old; when I was about 10 I bought my first shotgun myself out of a barrel of used guns for $10. Was a double side by side with exposed hammers. Hunted with it all through school. It was only later, after I got out of the army I think it was that I bothered to research what the word “Damascus” imprinted on the tine between the barrels meant. After learning it’s meaning I stopped shooting it and bought a Remington 870. Guess lucky does count as I shot lots of heavy load #4 and #6 duck shot through the old double, lol 🙄...

"There are some people who do not ever need to own a firearm."

Read up on the militia in your state. Between a certain age you are required to be in the militia. No option that I am aware of. I won't get into the male, female, sick, lame, lazy, snowflake argument here but if the tyrants really get out of control the militia will be called to defend states rights. Yep....You heard it.... "States Rights".

The common rifle (Read: AR-15 in this case) is necessary for repair parts, ammunition, and other logistical reasons. I would imagine the militia especially in the south, number in the tens of millions and if properly organized, trained, and equipped by the milions of vets it will make the feds thinks twice.

I think it is a guy trying to make a point about requiring citizens to own or buy anything.

Doodle, you are missing the point. He is using AR15 as an example of anything the government requires citizens to buy and the bill is to demonstrate the outragousness and illegality of requiring citizens to buy anything.

Should have just followed the Kennesaw GA law example. They are both unenforceable but they make a point and statistically, it has been shown to reduce crime.

As stupid as banning them. No, the government does not have the right to force you to buy something. Even if it’s part of bammycare. No right to take them away, no right to mandate ownership. The right to shut the f* up, reduce taxes, and leave us the f* alone.

He's just re-stating the Militia Act of May 8, 1792, providing federal standards for the organization of the Militia.
I. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America, in Congress assembled, That each and every free able-bodied white male citizen of the respective States, resident therein, who is or shall be of age of eighteen years, and under the age of forty-five years (except as is herein after excepted) shall severally and respectively be enrolled in the militia, by the Captain or Commanding Officer of the company, within whose bounds such citizen shall reside, and that within twelve months after the passing of this Act. And it shall at all time hereafter be the duty of every such Captain or Commanding Officer of a company, to enroll every such citizen as aforesaid, and also those who shall, from time to time, arrive at the age of 18 years, or being at the age of 18 years, and under the age of 45 years (except as before excepted) shall come to reside within his bounds; and shall without delay notify such citizen of the said enrollment, by the proper non-commissioned Officer of the company, by whom such notice may be proved. That every citizen, so enrolled and notified, shall, within six months thereafter, provide himself with a good musket or firelock, a sufficient bayonet and belt, two spare flints, and a knapsack, a pouch, with a box therein, to contain not less than twenty four cartridges, suited to the bore of his musket or firelock, each cartridge to contain a proper quantity of powder and ball; or with a good rifle, knapsack, shot-pouch, and powder-horn, twenty balls suited to the bore of his rifle, and a quarter of a pound of powder; and shall appear so armed, accoutred and provided, when called out to exercise or into service, except, that when called out on company days to exercise only, he may appear without a knapsack. That the commissioned Officers shall severally be armed with a sword or hanger, and espontoon; and that from and after five years from the passing of this Act, all muskets from arming the militia as is herein required, shall be of bores sufficient for balls of the eighteenth part of a pound; and every citizen so enrolled, and providing himself with the arms, ammunition and accoutrements, required as aforesaid, shall hold the same exempted from all suits, distresses, executions or sales, for debt or for the payment of taxes.
In summary, it was understood, by the FOUNDERS, that the Militia was ALL able-bodied male citizens, and that all such citizens were to equip themselves with the standard military arms of the period.

When I did prisoner escort or payroll guard, I was issued a 1911 with three rounds in the magazine, and not supposed to chamber until too late.. I always had a few extra of my own that they didn’t need to know about.

A friend who had been in the National Guard years ago, told me about how they had been called out for riot duty and issued rifles from which the firing pin had been removed. He had his own personally-owned bolt with firing pin in his pocket.

I don't think he expects this to become law.

It is however, something that I've been advocating for years.

We need to take a page from the left's book and have pro 2A legislators submit a never ending stream of pro gun legislation like this proposal.

Let the left fly all over the place burning their time and money trying to stamp out federal and state pro gun laws like conservatives have to fight gun grabbers daily.

Well that makes sense.

My first reflex when someone in govt wants to tell us we have to do something is I get angry.

I didn’t look at the angles.

Of course it was never gonna pass. But if it did, that would mean even MORE money spent by dems who would eventually defeat it but at a cost.

Hmm.

Remember that many of those early locals had just finished fighting the French and Indian War (1754 to 1763) as British subjects formed up into militias. They were well armed and trained.

You give credit to the Missouri legislature that may not be warranted.
