From newstalkzb.co.nz:
The crowd in attendance at a vigil at Aucklands Aotea Square cheered loudly when Attorney-General David Parker said the Government would ban semi-automatic rifles.
He warned of a global rise of extremism.
There is a dimming of enlightenment in many parts of the world, he said.
How can it be right for this atrocity to be filmed by the murderer using a go-pro and live-streamed across the world by social media companies?
How can that be right? Who should be held accountable for that?
The answer is obvious: New Zealands law-abiding gun owners. Theyre the ones who will pay for a crazed killers murder spree by giving up a piece of their gun rights and their property.
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern vowed shed crack down on gun rights.
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern speaks following mosque mass shootings: "I can tell you one thing right now: Our gun laws will change.
And with the Attorney Generals pronouncement, Ardern moved swiftly to make good on that promise.
Speaking to media in Wellington this morning, Ardern stressed that now was the time for change.
Ardern said five guns were used by the primary perpetrator, including two semi-automatic weapons, and two shotguns.
The offender was in possession of a gun licence, Ardern said.
American civilian disarmament activists are cheering the New Zealand governments swift reaction.
All is proceeding just as the shooter had planned.

False is the idea of utility that sacrifices a thousand real advantages for one imaginary or trifling inconvenience; that would take fire from men because it burns, and water because one may drown in it; that has no remedy for evils except destruction.
The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.
Can it be supposed that those who have the courage to violate the most sacred laws of humanity, the most important of the code, will respect the less important and arbitrary ones, which can be violated with ease and impunity, and which, if strictly obeyed, would put an end to personal liberty... and subject innocent persons to all the vexations that the guilty alone ought to suffer?
Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.
They ought to be designated as laws not preventive but fearful of crimes, produced by the tumultuous impression of a few isolated facts, and not by thoughtful consideration of the inconveniences and advantages of a universal decree.

I am reminded of California, which tried to slip an anti gun bill through their legislature. So much resistance was mounted against it the bill was shelved.
I said, “ Hold on! Something will happen in Cali to get the law passed!”
So Cali released Pat Purdy from a mental institution, allowed him to buy a gun in Cali, and Oregon, passing all the waiting periods, then he shot up the school at Stockton.
The shelved bill was pulled out and passed before any opposition could be mounted.
That was 1989. How has it worked out for Californians!
“But no matter, guns aren’t for Kiwis, they are for free men and women that don’t ask for permission to be free”.
BINGO!!!!
People who think they must get permission to be free deserve enslavement. They are already happy to be slaves of the State.
You’re right. It does smell like it. That guy’s words are very telling.
You’re exactly right. What that guy said is very revealing.
“...the Government would ban semi-automatic rifles.”
I’ve read numerous articles over the last year that many members of the “global elite” have bought property in New Zealand and built survival bunkers. Apparently NZ is viewed as the safest place on earth in the event of a global catastrophe. Maybe NZ’s plan to ban even more firearms is just one more way the NZ government is working with these billionaires to further ensure their safety from the local NZ Morloks.
New Zealand Shooter Hopes for U.S. Civil War: Conservatism Is Dead, Thank God
Probably did so the anti-gun agenda could get free propaganda out of the horror of it all. Call me jaded but we’ve seen this so many times. There were so many of these horrors that happened here when Obama was in office. I’m wondering if, God forbid, there will be another here at some point.
Yes, why is nobody talking about the shameful delay it took for police to arrive on the scene?
I agree.
The U. N. is now in full control.
Trump is doing his best to wrestle it back.
Hope he can do it.
Yes it does...
