The dossier that launched several investigations into Donald Trump and his presidential campaign was based, in part, on posts from "random individuals" from a CNN website that allows the public to publish unverified information.
Christopher Steele made the admission in a deposition given in connection with a lawsuit against the dossier. The judge released portions of the deposition this week.
Washington Examiner:
According to deposition transcripts released this week, Steele said last year he used a 2009 report he found on CNN's iReport website and said he wasn't aware that submissions to that site are posted by members of the public and are not checked for accuracy.
A web archive from July 29, 2009 shows that CNN described the site in this manner: "iReport.com is a user-generated site. That means the stories submitted by users are not edited, fact-checked, or screened before they post."

I didn’t even know CNN still allowed posts on their website. I thought they like some other news outlets muzzled the public, such as no comments or requiring Facebook etc so as to control the media message. The only way many media sites allowed public opinions was through highly selective and edited “letters to the editor”.
Because it sounds better than admitting that you got your material from Salon.com and the Huffer Post.

Back before the internet, his predecessors were forced to actually get off their duffs, walk from the basement to a news stand, buy one copy each of the sleazy tabloids (anything with headlines containing words like "Aliens!" or "Jackie O Bombshell!" would suffice), plus a scissors & glue stick, and then go home to create their FISH Warrant applications.
That's an excellent point. I hadn't looked at it from that point of view. For Steele to admit to this kind of stupidity, he must feel that he is in serious jeopardy. Steele has embarrassed the UK spies, and his world may be closing in on him. The UK is not above trying to influence our elections, but the great sin is to get caught doing it. And with such pure drivel as that dossier.
Yeah. Lori Loughlin could go to jail or at least pay a huge fine, and has lost her source of income. Hillary committed treason (Uranium One), got people killed in Benghazi, exposed secret and confidential information to foreign enemies, and she walks.
Her direct reports, Huma Abedin and Cheryl Mills, get immunity agreements without providing any valuable information to the investigators. Lynch meets with Bill Clinton while Hillary is supposedly being investigated, and also informs the FBI before the investigation is complete that Hillary is not going to be prosecuted.
Comey, McCabe, Strzok, Page, Rosenstein don't get prosecuted. Obama skates on allowing, and encouraging, the abuse of government power to spy on the Trump campaign and to try to overturn an election. FISA abuse, IRS abuse, unmasking of NSA surveillance records.
Yeah, sure, go after some actresses, but don't touch traitors and corrupt politicians who are subverting our system and selling us out to our enemies abroad and our enemies within.
