There’s a reason why President Trump is becoming more popular in important Midwestern battleground states like Pennsylvania: Voters don’t want to lose the ongoing economic renaissance that is transforming their lives.

According to a recent opinion survey from The Wall Street Journal, the president “cumulatively leads a generic Democratic opponent, 46 percent to 40 percent,” in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.

The survey’s findings are not surprising, and it’s no small coincidence that those states are all thriving under the president’s pro-growth economic policies.

First time I have ever heard Pennsylvania referred to as a midwestern state. Compared to what … Maine?

Maybe Trump can win a Rocky Mountain state like New Hampshire in 2020. :-P

Who educates these people?

News to me, too, and I grew up there.

Then again, they do say that western PA is more like an extension of Ohio.

Give them a break, it’s difficult to keep track of all 57 states when they move all around.

Traditionally, East Coast folks have always thought of Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Indiana — pretty much anything “west” of the Appalachians, North of the Ohio River, and East of the Mississippi River as the “Mid West”. Always seemed weird to me, but that was the common usage when I grew up.

Mid-Atlantic Coal Belt is more appropriate.

I once referred to PA as the Midwest to a resident of Erie. She was indignant, "We're Easterners."

It depends what part of the state you are talking about. Philadelphia is practically a bolt-on part of New Jersey. Meanwhile out here in Pittsburgh we have much more in common with Ohio.

Yet when I lived in Michigan people there all regarded Pittsburgh as being “very East Coast”.

I guess you can’t win.

I once heard somebody from Boston describe Pennsylvania as being “out west”.
