SF meets Andrew Yang, a presidential candidate who’s attracting support from Millennials
SF Chronicle ^ | March 18, 2019 | Peter Fimrite

The unlikely presidential run of Andrew Yang, who is proposing a $1,000-a-month “freedom dividend” to every adult in America, rolled Friday into San Francisco, where some 3,000 supporters listened to the New York tech entrepreneur warn about how artificial intelligence and robotics are taking jobs.

The 44-year-old son of Taiwanese immigrants who met each other at UC Berkeley has already surpassed expectations — virtually nonexistent when he got into the race — by inspiring enough donations to qualify for the Democratic primary debate in June.

“freedom dividend”

A "dividend" is given for a productive amount of work, above and beyond. What Yang is proposing is in no way a dividend, nor is it "free."

He’s running as a Democrat. They’re so liberal.

Yang is actually not a bad guy. Watch him spend over 2 hrs with Joe Rogan on YouTube to get him. He is the only Democrat who DEFENDS the Electoral College, for example. Yes his universal income is ridiculous. But I hope he will run as an independent in the end to hurt the Dems.

That's Bloomberg's job.

This is the guy who wants to give every American $1,000 per month (cost: nearly $4 trillion per year) and pay for it by taxing Amazon, Facebook and others. Yeah, that’s going to happen. Where do these delusional idiots come from, anyway?

I’m going to give everyone free Spotify downloads, along with their free iPhone, your choice of 3 concerts per year paid for (tickets, and transportation if to another city or country), lessons for the musical instrument of your choice, and 10 weeks vacation annually - and vacation will be paid at twice your regular wage (because let’s face it, it takes money to party).

Once he opens that door of giving everyone $1000/month the Fake Indian or Bernie will double or triple that, and he’ll be DOA.

This is just a stupid bribe for votes... but Milton Friedman did advocate a negative income tax:

No wonder the left wants an unfettered open border and instant citizenship. The second, third etc generations are not assimilating to Americanism like in the past.

$12K a year is basically 20% of GDP or the entire Federal budget.

If taxes aren’t raised, we really will be holding bake sales to fund the Pentagon (and every other Federal agency).

Yang is a guy IMO we should cheer on. Of course his $1K giveaway is silly, but, I would add that that this is lieu of all other welfare payments. I am not advocating considering him too deeply; I think he has excellent potential to suck the air out of the otherwise goofball Dem campaign.

IMO, his potential as a disruptor to the overall Dem campaign effort is quite promising.

A household I know of, has 3 adults who seem to have difficulty paying $300 rent on their trailer, despite 1 gets $900 soc. sec., another has a $15k part-time job.

But they can spend 100s of dollars on cigarettes, lottery tickets, and liquor. Their trash can is full of the evidence. They buy pot, too.

They could have paid off a mortgage long ago, but for their choices.

But hey, let’s give them $3000 a month more to blow. The guy with the job can quit, & have nearly the same take-home.
