There is an ancient reason for Kurds to celebrate today:
Syrian time is 8 hours ahead of CT in the USA. Today is Newroz for them. (New Year Celebration with extra meaning)
Kurds celebrate Newroz, light fire as symbol of event (in KRG)
Turkey bans Newroz celebrations for Syrian Kurds in Afrin (in Turkish control)

“The Newroz fire is said to be a symbol of defiance and triumph over evil, and for Kurds, it has become a symbol of freedom against oppression.”
Kurdish Activists Summoned and Threatened on the Eve of Newroz in Kurdistan (in Iran)
(Long story short? Kurds and allies in SDF after defeating ISIS, should scare the crap out of despots in Turkey, Iraq and Iran. Judging from the actions of the Despots, it does. Note, at this point, there is some division about nationalism among Kurds. Note, there was a very recent meeting held by the leaders in Iran, Iraq and Syria. Wonder what they discussed?)
Sounds like Independence Day like ours, with "fireworks" and all, speeches, etc.
Let us remember and assert our own, not neglecting it to abdicate responsibility to instead merely pursue self-gratification.
Decadence is the enemy of true freedom.
