'The president has made this a priority,' Nielsen says.
Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen said the debate over President Trump's declaration of a national emergency at the southern border boils down to "pretty simple calculus."
Twelve Senate Republicans joined the Democrats' effort last week to block Trump's emergency declaration, including the party's 2012 presidential nominee Mitt Romney.
The resolution, which the president vetoed the following day, would have blocked Trump from seizing billions of dollars intended for other projects in order to pay for his long-promised border wall.
"Did the president have authority to issue the emergency? He did. It's statutory. Congress gave it to him," Nielsen said on "Special Report" Monday.
She said she can confirm there is absolutely a humanitarian disaster at the border, and it's becoming more "heart-wrenching" every single day.
"We truly are in system meltdown," Nielsen said. "The system was not built for this type of flow, for these numbers and what we're seeing, whether it's drugs, whether it's traffickers, whether it's the child exploiters, or whether it's all the families and the children who are coming across very sick and very in need."

Completely lawless. The left will never lose power again because they can keep bringing in new illegal voters. And the best part of this rigged gig for the commies in power is that you and I get to support their illegal voters and pay for their kid’s education.
That’s why you see california, oregon, and washington passing outrageous unconstitutional laws and regulations. In the past, the real citizens wouldn’t put up with that crap and vote them out of office. Now, they don’t have a care in the world and it’s full speed ahead with whatever insane socialist ‘utopian’ idea that pops into their pea sized brains.

So what is everyone going to do about it? We all sit here wringing our collective hands and watching it unfold. We continue to live our daily lives, hustling for whatever next achievement we think we might make, or for that next vacation, or next ticket to the next big game.
People are asleep basically, and our country is being ripped out right from under us.
When will we organize and fight this?? At some point, the party is going to end for all of us ...and look WHO AND WHAT we will be living with and under — it’s going to be horrific!!
Americans need to get up off their asses and fight this . ... The time is long overdue.
I’ve read they are being bused up through Mexico to the US border. Once they set foot into the US, apparently they are here to stay. Well lets continue the bus ride to a place(s) where they are welcomed - like the district around Nancy P’s place. After 5 or 10 thousand are settling around her palace, I’m sure she will change her mind! and no vetting!
