GOP senator disinvited to Republican event over vote against Trump's emergency declaration
The Hill ^ | 18 Mar 19 | ZACK BUDRYK

A Missouri county GOP committee disinvited Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) to a dinner event next month, citing his recent vote against President Trump’s emergency declaration to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border.

Blunt joined 11 Senate Republicans, and all Democrats, in voting to block the declaration, prompting the Christian County Republican Central Committee to rescind his invitation to the local GOP’s Lincoln/Trump Day Dinner, scheduled for April 6 in Ozark.

“I am so disappointed in you now that I can hardly speak,” Wanda Martens, the party committee’s events chairwoman, wrote in an email to Blunt’s office obtained by The Kansas City Star. “Why could you not support my president in the emergency declaration? President Trump tried every available means to work the Senate to resolve the border issue and build the much needed wall. He is well within his presidential powers to do this.”

Blunt's office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Blunt, the fourth-ranking Republican in the Senate, was the only member of GOP leadership to vote for the resolution of disapproval that would block Trump's emergency declaration. The president vetoed the resolution Friday.

The Missouri Republican cited the separation of powers to justify his vote in a radio interview last week.

“The last power really left to Congress is the power to control appropriations, the power of the purse, which anybody’s ever looked at the constitution has heard that phrase over and over again," he told KCMO. “And I think it’s an important phrase.”

Blunt has also warned a future Democratic president could take advantage of the precedent set by the national emergency declaration and take action on issues such as gun control or environmental regulations.

Time to do this all over Missouri and set up a committee to Recall him if it is allowed.

Blount will jump to the Democrats like the rat that he is, but the GOP should make every effort to bring him down.

One can only hope actions like this will continue and multiply by voters back home who are sick and tired of their Representatives not representing the people who elected them to do just that.

"Blunt has also warned a future Democratic president could take advantage of the precedent . . .""

An absolutely transparent attempt to pretend there's some larger issue involved when his real concern is that a wall would reduce the amount of corrupt cash from drug trafficking and human trafficking that flows to Congress under the table.

RINO bastards like being knee deep in dirty money and nothing is more important to them than keeping the tap wide open so the money flows freely.

I think “Blunt” pretty much describes this jerk. As in, “duh”.

Yeah, and we can all see what a bang up job you've all done to "control appropriations", that's why we're about 100 trillion in unfunded liabilities these days.

Build the G'Damn wall you idiots.

Just think, of the GOP in the House and Senate did the right thing two years ago and secured our Border, this Emergency Declaration would have never been needed.

Departments move money around internally all the time - the DoD, with the old $500 hammer covering for a black project. EPA, FEMA, Interior...How many billions a year are simply ‘misplaced’?

So where’s the beef that Congress isn’t in control of the purse? Since when have they been? The sudden pearl-clutching focus on a wall meant to enhance national security brings into blaring light decades of apathy displayed over the rest of Congresses’ precious purse.

Monsanto probably appreciated the no vote, tho. Or maybe his lobbyist children were his main thought? Sad footnote to a rather stellar record.

Wanda Martens is exactly right! Good for her!!! If Blount thinks for one minute that his vote against the wall would stop a RAT president and Congress from declaring a national emergency for Globull Warming, he is a fool. And a stupid one at that.

The same goes for Sen. Lee. He went as far as to acknowledge the national emergency. Yet he voted against Trump!

Senators, if you think the law gives the President too much power, FIX THE LAW. Symbolic votes are pharts in the wind.

Wanda should run for Senate. She sounds like she has a good head on her shoulders.

Just a small observation....
....I have been active at different leves in my county for many years in the Republican Party

During the 2016 run up I became so disillusioned and disgusted with them I lost hope they would change......as they were so tepid and dismissive of Donald Trump......They campaigned listlessly, IMO.
But he did win Florida !

However in Western North Carolina they were on fire for him.......worked their hearts out and helped bring him over the top late that night!

All this to say.....I’ve returned to the fold in my county and it is night and day!
Now they are on fire for him!
‘‘Tis a glorious thing to behold.

I feel the same way.

People only on Free Republic know the following:

1. Trump would easily win a popular vote contest by campaigning in huge stadiums in California, Illinois and New York.
2. Trump would easily garner the 16 year old voters, and infact bring them to the GOP.
3. Truth be known that Latinos and Blacks love Trump and will vote for him.
4. Latinos in this country want a wall, long and tall.
5. Trump is like no other, ever unless you go back 100 years or more.
6. I think of the weak presidents before the civil war. That brought us past the tipping point. Same today.

Sounds like a huge invitation by the Missouri GOP for one of its members to primary this RINO out of office. Winning!

Pat Toomey deserves the same treatment in Pennsytucky. Disinvite him to all events. The guys has zero personality and need to be made an example of . He wouldn’t know how to fight back.202-224-4254 call the office and ask what events he will be attending in PA. We than contact these people and demand he be disinvited.

They had six years to take votes against Obamas emergency declarations. I think he had like 9 of them while in office. The Republican house and senate never took a vote to cancel any of them. Why weren’t they worried about the power of the purse for those emergency declarations. So full if sh!t it stinks to high heaven.

“Oh come on, that’s a straw argument. Democrats take advantage without needing precedent.”

EXACTLY - the cat’s out of the bag on this approach now. EVERYTHING that the Dems have done and said for the past 3 years shows that they are going to rule with an IRON FIST should they get power...regarding EVERYTHING. A few examples:
1) Attempt to pack the courts (that will be interesting)
2) End the Senate Filibuster, once and for all (both Reid and Shuemer have been clear on this)
3) Make DC and PR states (a long-held goal to add more Dems to Congress, and use PR for more electoral votes)
4) Eliminate what little integrity is left in our voting system (obvious by the rulings of their judges, along with their opposition to any reforms)
5) No longer enforce border security (i.e., no more ICE, all will be welcome here)
6) Declare emergencies if needed to implement their priorities (regardless of Trump’s wall)
7) Prevent Congress from exerting any leverage over their president (by use of the courts, the media, etc.)
8) End the Electoral College (either outright, or through their backdoor attempt that’s in progress).
9) Prevent Republicans from EVER becoming a majority party again in Congress or winning the White House. (a direct result of much of the above). We can end up as a 60/40 Republican country, but still be lucky to have 100 seats in Congress or win 100 EVs.

So, to you TRUMP HATERS still lurking about, please ask yourselves if this future is what you REALLY WANT, because it is the future you will get - there is no Evan McMullian ready to swoop-in as an independent, thereby saving the country - it’s either Trump or the above in 2020.
