The Lowdown on McCain’s Obamacare Vote
The Rush Limbaugh Show ^ | 20 Mar 2019 | Rush Limbaugh

Posted on 03/21/2019 6:24:33 AM PDT by Alas Babylon!

RUSH:  Trump and McCain.  This issue continues to expand and grow, and I’m gonna cut through all of the Twitter clutter and give you the nub of what’s going on here.  Yesterday in a series of tweets, President Trump told the story of how John McCain screwed over the entire country when he failed to vote to get rid of Obamacare, the repeal and replace of Obamacare.  He said that it was a last-minute thing after many promises that he would vote with the White House.

This is Trump telling people that they had assurances upon assurances from Senator McCain that he was gonna vote to repeal and replace Obamacare.  Now, Jim Acosta, CNN, found a, quote-unquote, “source” who told him that that wasn’t true.  Some former aide to McCain told Acosta that Trump is lying.  McCain never promised the White House he was gonna vote to repeal and replace Obamacare.  So Acosta’s running this all over Twitter, and — I don’t know — probably put it on the air at CNN, basically saying he’s got a source (an unnamed McCain aide) claiming that Trump is lying about this.

Well, Matt Schlapp and his wife Mercedes… Mercedes is in the communications shop of the White House. Matt Schlapp runs CPAC. At the time, Matt Schlapp was the key White House guy counting votes on this issue.  Every president, every White House, every West Wing has a guy that stays in touch with Capitol Hill — a liaison — that keeps the West Wing informed on the status of legislation the White House is interested in, kind of like a presidential whip.  Not out there actually whipping votes, but he is the vote-counter.

He’s in touch with the whips.  He’s in touch with the Republican leaders in the Senate and the House, and he knows how who is going to vote, and it’s up to him to count the votes, and he reports to the president what the latest is.  Matt Schlapp told a reporter that somebody might want to fact-check what Jimmy Acosta is saying, because Matt Schlapp says that what Acosta tweeted isn’t true.  Matt Schlapp said, “McCain met with me in my office and pledged to support every version of repeal and replace and said he would lead the charge.

“Everybody was worried he would flip-flop when it mattered, and he did.  He did on the flight to Washington.”  Schlapp says, “Acosta, I was tracking Senator McCain up until the vote, and everyone was told that he was solid on his vote against Obamacare, but all of us knew that McCain was unpredictable.  None of us, including the president, are lying about this.”  So Matt Schlapp is putting his reputation out there, assuring Acosta that whoever is talking to him is telling him falsehoods.

That McCain had assured the White House over and over again he was gonna vote to repeal and replace, but that they always knew he could change his mind because he was McCain.  So on the flight to Washington is when Schlapp found out McCain had changed his mind (if he was actually ever be truthful with him in the first place) about the intent of his vote.  Now, of course this doesn’t satisfy Acosta.  Acosta thinks everybody but him is lying and so forth.  So given all of this, you can understand why Trump and Matt Schlapp and everybody else in the West Wing would be livid.

McCain, according to them, led them to believe he was a solid vote to repeal and replace Obamacare.  He had campaigned on it!  He had made a big deal out of how bad he thought Obamacare was.  But then he comes in and at the moment of truth, he’s the last vote, gives his famous thumbs down, and kills the repeal. And Trump feels like he was lied to, misled, and what have you.  So now there’s all kinds of news stories about the feud between Trump and McCain.

Washington Post:  “‘The McCain Family Deserves Better,’ Republican Senator Says as Trump Continues to Lash Out.”  “The McCain Family Deserves Better.”  From TheHill.com:  “Anderson Cooper Blasts Trump Over McCain Attacks: ‘He’s Punching a Person Who is Dead.‘”  This is from CNN, by the way, running and promoting a documentary called Tricky Dick.  Do you know why they’re doing that? Do you know what MSNBC is doing? (interruption)

Snerdley, you may not know this.  Do you know that MSNBC on Saturday and Sunday — like from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. — is running never-ending repeats of All the President’s Men?  (interruption) Oh, yeah. They’re running the movie of how Woodward and Bernstein got rid of Nixon.  They run this so that their audience can get set up for the impeachment of Trump, and now CNN has got this series called Tricky Dick, which is designed to get their audience prepared and set up for the impeachment of Trump.

Romney has knocked Trump over his McCain criticism. (impression) “How dare you criticize an American war hero who died?  How dare you do this?” and then, not to be outdone, James Clyburn of the Congressional Black Caucasians has chimed in that “Trump and His Family Are ‘Greatest Threats to Democracy of My Lifetime.’” Trump and his family are the modern incarnation of — wait for it — Adolf Hitler.

Mcshame can rest in hell.

He was a sell out to the American people and absolutely had no good qualities.

“A Medal of Honor winner would never lie, unless that was the price for the award.” - itsahoot

Shame on you! Just how in the hell do you think Bud Day’s feelings about McCain “bought” him a Medal of Honor?

Bud Day praised McCain’s behavior. Didn’t just remain silent. Although a political opponent of McCain, Day praised McCain’s behavior in the Hilton. And he certainly was in a position to know!

I never said it did. What I am saying is the POW’s were all treated cruelly but only the Hanoi Songbird sang this tune:

From the National Archives and Records Administration, McCain says he is guilty of “crimes against the Vietnamese country and people” and compliments his medical treatment.

“The doctors were very good and they knew a great deal about the practice of medicine,” McCain says on the tape. “I remained in the hospital for some time and regained much of my health and strength. Since I arrived in the camp of detention, I have received humane and lenient treatment. I received this kind treatment and food even though I came here as an aggressor and the people who I injured have much difficulty in their living standards. I wish to express my deep gratitude for my kind treatment and I will never forget this kindness extended to me.”

And BTW he was most certainly NOT an opponent of McCain politically.

I strongly disagree with your statement that he was human like all of us. He went way beyond the norm for his McCain form of vileness

More on that POS from AZ this time the dossier. What would McCain and his people want to keep the editors from mentioning the name Christopher Steele? Could it be to protect the Russian connection to Hillary that McCain did not want people to find out about?

David Kramer, a long-time advisor to late Senator John McCain, revealed that he spent “a good hour or two” talking to two Wall Street Journal editors in a failed attempt to convince them not to publish the name of Christopher Steele, the former British spy who authored the infamous, largely-discredited anti-Trump dossier

Add the Arab Spring as the most significant and destructive world event in decades. North Africa and much of the Middle East were devastated. The migrant crises triggered by fallout of the Arab Spring has forever changed Europe. And John S McCain was right there with Hillary making it happen. In fact, wanted more support and faster action, claiming that the (Obama) administration has been “a step behind” events in Egypt, Libya, and Syria. If McCain had his way, Egypt would have been lost and Al Qaeda would be running Syria.

McCain was captured, likely tortured beyond his capacity, and nicknamed ‘Songbird’ by his captors. Can’t judge him for that as I wasn’t in his shoes.
He would have been a hero except he dishonored himself later. McCain became a champion of the Muslim Brotherhood. McCain defended Hussein.
He should have supported his President Trump, but he instead supported the coup to overthrow the duly elected President.
McCain did not die on his own terms, he was a traitor in the end.

I despise John McCain for his behavior as a politician. But there is no evidence he acted badly while a POW. Yes, at one point, he broke and signed a confession. Lots did.

As best I can tell, the “Songbird” thing first appeared in 2008 in a campaign flyer put out by a guy who had never been a POW. Bud Day caled the flyer “the most outrageous f——— lie I’ve ever heard.”

There are a TON of reasons to hate McCain. No reason to make up false stories.

Benedict Arnold was also at one time a “war hero”.

“Why are you defending the SongBird?”

As I already wrote, “There are a TON of reasons to hate McCain. No reason to make up false stories.”

This “Songbird” crap seems to have first appeared nearly over 30 years after he got back from being a prisoner. Conservatives are supposed to care about the truth. McCain undoubtedly suffered hell while a POW. He probably has it in his future although only One gets to judge that. He did plenty of things to despise him for, from Keating 5 to lying repeatedly to voters in Arizona to betraying his country AS A POLITICIAN to wanting to get us into wars all over the globe.

But...truth is important. As a young LT, I met a few Vietnam POWs. What they went thru was obscene, and there is no reason to believe McCain got a free pass. Far to many eyewitnesses say otherwise.

According to his book, he was offered a quicker release but refused to accept it. According to his book . . .

Far to many eyewitnesses say otherwise.

Exactly, why do you suppose that is, because far too many say he was a SongBird.

With two admirals in the family reports can say anything and medals can be awarded. My Brother-in-law (now deceased) survived Bataan and he didn't get a silver star, maybe because his dad and grandfather were not generals.

Not who were there. The “Songbird” thing was first mentioned over 30 years later by a guy who hadn’t been a POW. When eyewitnesses say one thing, and no one on the other side was there, who do you believe? The guy who wasn’t there?

Were you there? People lie all the time especially in court or books. McCain disrespected every POW that didn't come home when he shut down families of MIAs. There are two different versions of his antics on the USS Forrestal, wonder which version you believe?

Some people even believe the Warren Commission Report and Snarlin Arlens report on Waco but some, like me, don't believe either.

“Were you there? People lie all the time especially in court or books.”

You are in the position of someone who denies every eyewitness and prefers to take the word of someone who wasn’t there, 30+ years after the fact. I assume you believe Kavanaugh was part of a gang rape ring, then?

I heard both sides of that issue, you think you heard both sides of the McCain story, I think you didn't.

Eye witness testimony must be supported by facts, McCains character does not fit with anything that describes hims as heroic. Hey I could be wrong if so shame on me, but everything that we can see of McCain publicly does not fit with Honor and Courage. You insist on judging him by events that you only know about second hand. I believe he is every bit as much a hero as John Kerry, who served in Vietnam lest we forget.
