Yes, it was abandoned up here (amid the protests from the Media Party and their friends). And Quebec is setting up their own, but a good number of municipalities in that province say they will not enforce it.

In 1983, New Zealand abolished their registry of sporting rifles and shotguns that had been created in about 1920 as law enforcement officials determined that it would take countless numbers of man hours to correct the data already there plus deal with backlogs.
