Lying by Demorats on these shows has been going on for years. Past Republican administrations, ie Bushes’, refused to say anything about it. Donald Trump has the fortitude and cajones to say something about it.

Remembering the days when Stephanopoulos was responsible for calling TV producers to freeze out opposition. How do you think George will respond to this?

Swalwell said that the “only person who has been caught lying about Russia is Donald Trump.”

Really. And somehow the two-year boondoggle somehow couldn’t show evidence of that. You really don’t have to be that bright to be in politics do you?

Cannot wait till Trump points them out at his next rally as “proven fake news”.

Seal well is not wrong.
ALL political speech is protected speech, even the lies. They can lie to the media all they want to, without fear of LEGAL penalty.

What is a crime is lying to Congress.

Are there any actual laws on the books that govern or regulate journalistic integrity? If not maybe there should be.

Nothing as long as New York Times v. Sullivan remains good law. It makes it almost impossible to successfully sue the MSM for libel. So, they lie and get away with it.

My argument: airwaves and telephony network emit radiation that the public is exposed to. Frequencies are allocated by the government for communication purposes for the public good.

If certain frequencies are harmful, they are regulated to protect public health. I would say that disinformation, lies and deception, are even more harmful to public health. I would propose that in order to access broadcasting frequencies, those entities doing so should be required to guarantee the veracity and factual content of heir publications or risk having their licenses revoked. You still have freedom of speech but no access to pollute the airwaves with lies.

Good point! Self-proclaimed ‘journalists’ claim to be professionals. Professions have codes of conduct or ethics, and a means of enforcing those codes.

To avoid any 1st Amendment issues, the ‘profession’ of journalism would have to be self-regulating — not regulated directly by government. However, if journalists want to be receive the benefits of being professionals — they have to start acting as such. For instance, if caught making up sources; they should be subject to discipline, by the governing body. If guilty of misconduct — they would lose their “professional journalist” designation, and all the attendant benefits. They would, henceforth, have no more privileges (such as access to the White House briefing room), than an ordinary blogger.

Fortunately we are less than a generation from having this problem solve itself.

If all broadcast licenses are revoked twenty five years from now no-one will even notice.

Even public figures can sue for slander and libel when it is shown to have caused great harm.

There are libel and slander laws. The media has, in the past, received a fair amount of leniency in these matters, but they’re not immune.

Swalwell doesn’t seem to realize that Trump IS going to sue him and WILL prevail in court.

Actual malice, motherf8-—er.

For the priviledge of calling themselves Journalists they should be licensed.
Hold them morally and ethically responsible for their actions. Give them little pins to wear on their lapels like Realtors. Better yet.. give their job to artificial intelligence.

Please clarify this. It sounds like what you’re saying is that a member of Congress could lie to me, a citizen, but not the other way around. Is that correct?

Good point. Call them to testify before Congress about their “evidence” and they’ll either have to admit there isn’t any, or charge them with lying to Congress.

Its funny how, for CNBC, the actual words -—

“Moving forward, we ask that you employ basic journalistic standards when booking such guests to appear anywhere in your universe of productions”

-— and -—

“At a minimum, if these guests do reappear, you should replay the prior statements and challenge them to provide the evidence which prompted them to make the wild claims in the first place”

become:

“instructed them to” employ basic journalistic standards.
