I can see protecting pre existing conditions by law, but that is it.

But that's the whole ball game. It was that issue that kept the Reps from coming up with a viable replacement bill.

If you could keep pre-existing condition protections without creating all kinds of other issues it would have been done decades ago.

It all boils down to this, coverage for preexisting conditions is, by definition, NOT insurance!! I don’t know exactly what to call it but it is actually impossible to write insurance to cover preexisting conditions because once you do you are not writing insurance.
