I’m not THAT old, and I’ve always thrilled to the music of

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

HAROLD ARLEN

”LET’S FALL IN LOVE”

Tonight is dedicated to an immortal. It originated in the 1933 Columbia movie of the same name, a vehicle for Ann Sothern. The plot was a flimsy satire of the Greta Garbo phenomenon.

This is the hit version from 1934. Note that poplar music isn’t swinging yet. Lew Sherwood handles vocal duties.

Guess what I was doing when I was 15. Playing music for those 'old' people. Me, dumbass little high scool kid, did my own arrangements for the little quintet we had.

We were pretty popular, did a lot of parties and wedding receptions. And a lot of the requests were songs fron that era.

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

Harold wanted to a singer in his early days, and this is his own take on the song. Note that he’s a high tenor.

You wanna have fun? Try playing 4th Tenor on ‘In the Nude’, which everybody called it. Jumping octaves and 13ths and stuff. Fun.
