CNN Contributor Rebukes Network for Charlottesville Hoax

CNN political commentator Steve Cortes has taken his own network to task for perpetuating the lie that President Donald Trump referred to neo-Nazis in the Charlottesville, Virginia, riot as “very fine people.”

As Breitbart News has noted repeatedly, CNN’s own contemporaneous reporting showed that Trump was referring to peaceful protesters over the issue of the removal of a statue of Confederate general Robert E. Lee, and specifically excluding neo-Nazis, whom he said should be “condemned totally.”

Yet the network’s anchors, reporters, and contributors have claimed, over and over again, that Trump referred to the neo-Nazis as “very fine people” — even editing video deceptively to convince viewers of a fact that never happened.

Cortes himself tried to correct CNN’s mistake on air, and was rebuked by CNN host Erin Burnett. As he writes at RealClearPolitics Thursday (original links):

Just last week I exposed this falsehood, yet again, when CNN contributor Keith Boykin falsely stated, “When violent people were marching with tiki torches in Charlottesville, the president said they were ‘very fine people.’” When I objected and detailed that Trump’s “fine people on both sides” observation clearly related to those on both sides of the Confederate monument debate, and specifically excluded the violent supremacists, anchor Erin Burnett interjected, “He [Trump] didn’t say it was on the monument debate at all. No, they didn’t even try to use that defense. It’s a good one, but no one’s even tried to use it, so you just used it now.”

My colleagues seem prepared to dispute our own network’s correct contemporaneous reporting and the very clear transcripts of the now-infamous Trump Tower presser on the tragic events of Charlottesville.

Summing up:

" The only explanation for such a repeated falsehood is abject laziness or willful deception.

Either way, the duplicity on this topic perhaps encapsulates the depressingly low trust most Americans place in major media, with 77 percent stating in a Monmouth University 2018 poll that traditional TV and newspapers report fake news. In addition, such lies as the Charlottesville Hoax needlessly further divide our already-polarized society.

Our President believes in the old adage If you are explaining you are losing. He knew that anyone with 2 brain cells knew and the ones who lie would just continue to lie.

Deliberate and willful ignorance is a far worse failure of character than mere stupidity. Even the very stupid can be taught SOMETHING, with clear and concise repetition, plus almost infinite patience. And in the learning, be able to contribute something of value to the sum total of all human endeavor.

Whereas blame and arguing provide little or nothing of value.

The entire Charlottesville event was a staged hoax to perpetuate the narrative that the right was violent.

I watched Charlottesville as it happened on a Periscope live stream. The police agencies in the park failed to keep the two groups separated once Terry “The Punk” McAuliffe declared a state of emergency. This is policing 101 and IMO had they done this basic function there would have been no violence.

They have to be totally delusional to think Trump praised neo-Nazis.

They have to be totally deceptive to report Trump praised neo-Nazis.

Either way, it proves CNN is FAKE.

If I’m not mistaken, the guy that planned the Charlottesville rally was actually a Democrat. Of course, he was portrayed as a former Democrat that turned and became a radical, right wing nut job, Trump supporter. The mayor allowed the whole debacle to happen ordering the cops to stand down if I’m not mistaken and someone lost their life because of it, if I’m not mistaken.

I’m not really a tech savvy guy when it comes to all the latest and greatest stuff out there. But, I always thought it would be nice, if possible, if some tech person could take some of the video from the rally, especially the stuff where the guys were walking with tiki torches and attempt some facial recognition on some of them. Match them up against Facebook or Instagram or something like that, in attempt to id some of them. Again, if that technology is even possible.

I’d love to find out that the guys w/ the tiki torches were actually members of the DSA or AOCs Democratic Socialists.

Terry McCauliffe gave the order to give the protesters room to protest. And stand down. DEMS are evil.

I assume everything reported on CNN, NYT o the WaPo is false until proven true. Everything on MSNBC is false or too petty to consider for any purpose.

Every time PDJT says “excuse me” in a transcript, it’s because of an interruption by the questioner (supposed interviewer acting as a prosecutor). They are excessively frequent.

President Trump needs to stop using pronouns when he speaks. It can be awkward but dramatically lessons the opportunity of the propaganda media to misrepresent what he says.

MSNBC is not news. It is entertainment and bad entertainment at that. Madcow is always good for some yuks as is Ho and Zika.

The only “news” the “talking heads” ever get is what someone else wrote and then the “reading heads” read on their teleprompter. They should be called “reading heads.

CNN is admitting defeat. There’s no way this guy was given that airtime without either permission or explicit direction.

Jeff Zucker-(zooker)-Rhymes-With-Hooker (per Chris Plante) said that anti-Trump makes him money. I guess that’s no longer the case, douchebag.
