Trump could probably get a plan out in time... if it were not for the border invasion and all he’s had at him for 2 years.
AFTER the election will probably not sell during time before election.
People are so used to hearing the word “free”, telling them to buy their own and having insurance companies available, does not sound like a good deal... but it is the way it used to be and government was not in decisions of health. The people have to realize getting anything “free”, someone is paying for it and the government would be using those dollars to decide who got treatment and who did not.. and who would die from non care.
Remember the little boy in the UK a year ago... the government would not let the parents take the boy to the US for treatment... the government decided to let him die.. the parents were helpless to save their son... they wanted to do all that was available and the “state” said no..
That is universal health care... that is the government making the most important decision for you, when you are sick.
GOOD! It was stupid to bring this up in the first place.
I agree. It's like saying we can't end a war until we have a replacement plan. Or, we can't end Nazism until we have a replacement plan.
Yes, but he never should have said that then.
Obamacare wont be repealed, because it cant be repealed - or, more exactly, it cant be repealed without ushering in huge Democratic majorities in the House and the Senate.
Members of Congress dont know much, but they can count votes like a pimp in a whorehouse can count money.
Yes, the voters hate Obamacare and want it repealed. That is absolutely true.
Its also true that they want the ability to buy insurance for pre-existing conditions, want insurance companies to be forbidden to cancel policies for non-payment, want zero payment at the point of service, want their adult children who are smoking dope in a dive in Oakland to stay covered, want their States to expand Medicaid without taxes going up, and so on.
In other words, the only two things they hate about Obamacare are paying for it, and the name.
Republicans in Congress understand this perfectly well, which is why theres no plan.
And, not coincidentally, Obamacare (and Romneycare) were the culmination of fifty years of reform, all of which had the purpose of destroying the private sector or making it impossible for the private sector to function, except for boob jobs and a few other things. And, by 2009, the mission was largely accomplished.
Obamacare was merely a temporary mop-up operation, until full nationalization was possible.
And now, it is.
Like Nixon to China, Trump will propose single payer within the year. Its really the only way out at this point.
And before you accuse me of favoring it, realize that it will destroy a lifetime of work for me. I dont like it - I hate it.
But its coming, because its what the voters, bless their pointy little heads, want.
Retreats?
2. In early 2017 Paul Ryan came up with a "GOP plan" that was almost the same as ObamaCare.
3. President Trump began running around telling everyone how great this GOP plan was.
4. When people like me began posting all over the internet and pointing out that Ryan's "GOP plan" had almost NOTHING in common with the seven-point plan from Trump's campaign ... that page on Trump's website vanished.
There is no Trump plan. There is no GOP plan. Telling people that they can get "better health care for less cost" is like telling people they can pay $500/month for an apartment in Trump Tower.
This is where Trump has to be a political bullshit artist, unfortunately ... because he knows the American voters (INCLUDING A LOT OF PEOPLE HERE ON FREE REPUBLIC) want something that doesn't exist.
You are correct.
I’m afraid you’re right.
There seems to be a mindset in America that health care is something that shouldn’t be a major expense. I don’t know where that got started, but I’ve even had to disabuse myself of that notion now and then.
I’ve got worsening health problems, and I have had to shell out an increasing amount of cash. I don’t have a problem paying for the services (they are not and should not be free), but I know that the sky-high charges are that way because of Obamacare and people who use the ER as their primary care doctor and don’t pay (because they can’t/won’t or their gubmint insurance will). Basically I’m paying ripoff prices (and premiums for useless “health insurance”) to fund others who don’t pay a dime.
That’s what irks me. But I have a better chance of winning Powerball than seeing Congress do something about that.
Its not a retreat but advance in a different direction. Stupid fake news.
“...because he knows the American voters (INCLUDING A LOT OF PEOPLE HERE ON FREE REPUBLIC) want something that doesn’t exist. ....”
Everyone wants something for nothing!
Unfortunately that’s just the way people are!
Republicans just want it done “conservatively”!
That does seem to be what everyone is trying to sell. And, yes, it doesn't exist.
I do believe that we could see de-regulation and see lower costs for a lot of people. But that would be in part because they would get less. If they are OK with getting less, great! Enjoy the lower costs!
I don't expect to live forever. I don't expect to always have access to the best cutting-edge medical technology on the planet. I want to take care of myself (that's basically free) and get basic treatment for basic problems. I don't think I should have to pay $20,000 a year for that.
But most people want a heck of a lot more health coverage than what I am expecting. And they want to pay very little for it.
They won't get it. But they will probably vote for politicians who try to sell them "better health care for less cost".
Yes, stay fixed on immigration but just put out a plan again already. This is an important issue for anyone who isn’t on Medicare or corporate/government subsidized insurance. ObamaCare sucks. Present something else and promise action after the election because Democrats won’t move on it. Check the box for now but don’t just promise the GOP as the party of healthcare and then drop it... This is a huge middle class issue and we shouldn’t be paying healthcare for illegals when citizens can’t afford insurance. That’s the angle to keep immigration and healthcare both front and center.
Exactly correct, so why waste the time?
Build the wall and shove it right up Pelosis ass!
NY Slimes BS.
The real issue is that doctors wages are way out of line with every other OECD country, and that happened because the AMA has successfully blocked creation of med schools and residencies in sufficient number to control price.
In dumping this on the Roberts court, Pres Trump realizes that Roberts is a friend of Obamacare for whatever reason. I’d say someone just showed him that Roberts is not going to strike down OCare.
My sense is Roberts will say that just because the tax is now zero doesn’t mean a future Congress won’t again raise it higher. Therefore, he’ll say it’s still a tax...
And how does the AMA do that?
“Yes, stay fixed on immigration but just put out a plan again already. This is an important issue for anyone who isnt on Medicare or corporate/government subsidized insurance.”
I agree. Can’t believe the President doesn’t realize this. Guess he thinks Obamacare is a winning point for independents and doesn’t want to destroy it before the election. But the other option is as you said, put out a very good plan now, better than Obamacare.
Difficult, I know. But medical costs and premiums are a huge expense for most Americans. Those currently on Obamacare at least are getting help with the monthly premiums (though the deductibles are outrageous). The Dems will boast of it to voters regardless of the GOP’s attempts to promise the moon after the election.
