There's nothing like the prospect of an avocado shortage to spark fear in the hearts of toast lovers everywhere.

And, if President Donald Trump follows through with his threat to close the border with Mexico, it could affect supplies from there, as one importer predicts.

Along with Mexico, U.S. consumers also get avocados from California, Peru and Florida.

Nobody cares about avocados or rubbery tomatoes.

But tequila & limes, that’s a different story ...

Worrying about having no avocados is hardly a worry at all. Never even bought one until this year. It’s bland. But it got some good marketing that turned it into a hot item.

Sometimes you just want to raid a ship full of avocados and pitch the cargo overboard.

I can’t believe there are people willing to trade security and the future of our nation for guacamole.

Avocados are a natural laxative. They’re bad for IBS. Very bad.

The crux of the border crisis is the abuse of the 1980s era Central American refugee laws put in place when the Soviets were funding brutal Marxist proxy revolutions across the globe and terrorizing people with politically motivated violence.

Refugees from communist aggression were allowed into the US and given generous welfare benefits and resettlement help as part of the Cold War struggle against communism.

Those revolutions have died down the laws are still on the books and the Cloward - Piven monkey wrenchers have figured out how to use the asylum laws as a weapon to destroy the system

People who have no claim to refugee status are abusing the system and, ironically, many do called asylum seekers are actually the MS 13 style predators terrorizing the people in Central America who are coming to The US to open chapters of their gangs to terrorize Americans -all funded by Uncle Sam and the American taxpayer

These laws need to be revoked or re written to reflect current reality and the primary reform needs to be putting an end to unending welfare and resettlement benefits that have created little Mogadishu’s of welfare soaking, entitled and in your face non assimilating refugees on welfare for life

This is stupid and humiliating. Something this important and critical to the survival of the nation and Forbes makes it about a stupid gooey POS fruit?

The major demand for avacados is by illegals anyway so let them stay in Mexico and eat them.

Goods and crops can still come from and to Mexico. They will come into a warehouse at a port on one side, be inspected and pass through to the other side.

Not as fast or efficient as letting Mexican truckers drive right through with their cargo but I for one am 100% fine with that.

If Mexico ever cut off Avocado shipments to the US the snowflake would probably call for us to surrender to them and turn over our sovereignty to them.

Gosh - and just 1-1/2 days ago, we were going to totally run out of them big-pitted oily fruits that need a lot of doctoring to be palatable...

If the border is closed, could not they load them onto ships for American ports, bypassing the border?

I had a good friend who had a cholesterol problem. He was talking with his dietician about foods he could eat:

Dietician: ...but you can have all the avocados you want.

Friend: I've already had all the avocadoes I want/
