I think Nielsen was a protege of Trump’s former chief of staff, John Kelly (who was as worthless as Nielsen, as far as I’m concerned). She was never the appropriate person to make meaningful change in the U.S.’s open door, look the other way immigration system.
We need someone like Kobach or Tancredo in this position, not another compromised Chamber of Corruption candidate.
The Senate is not going to confirm an effective DHS Secretary.
There are strong open borders majorities in both Houses of Congress, and the only way forward is for us, not for Trump, to change that.

She was Kelly’s protege and the President let the General make his own decisions regarding DHS. Before Kelly was Chief of Staff, he headed up DHS so it makes sense he would recommend someone to take his place.
The President is now free from the Mueller blockade and we are seeing him shift priorities. It’s good to see the border become priority #1 while healthcare is for next year.
Kelly was gone in late December. It’s now early April and Nielsen is gone. The President has announced there will be a major crackdown on the border.
The real poll #’s are high for POTUS. He has nothing in his way in putting a major focus on the border.
And the Wall is going up with a huge approval backing by the American people.
Kobach would be one of the best permanent choices for DHS (should just dismantle DHS as it is a failed GWB experiment and as all things feral gubmint, has become too big to be effective) since the dude he’s chosen for interim will never make it. Kobach would be a pit bull. He should appoint Sheriff Joe as head of ICE. He’s got a coupla more good years to kick some A.
