I see a lot of internet posturing and braggadocio on this subject, but given the reality of history, would hold out little hope of very many gun owners actually defending their arsenal to the death.

I agree that comfort and convenience, as well as a desire to protect their families from the consequences of defying the tyrants will cause many many to knuckle under. However I am encouraged by the low compliance on turning in "high capacity" magazines, and registering "assault rifles" in repressive states.

If, god forbid, it comes to a shooting war between us and them, casualties on both sides will be horrific. A new nation may emerge, but the nation as we know it will be gone. However, it might just be possible for freedom to survive.

Hiding one's magazines from oppressors is one thing. Having said oppressors in the persons of jack boot thugs banging on one's door, after JBTs have seized one's 4473s, that's different.

I remember when two kalifornia campers were killed by a guy with a Marlin Camp Carbine. I was living in kali at the time. The cops went to all the FFLs and "asked" to see the 4473s of people who bought Camp Carbines. The FFLs, every one, complied.

The cops then went door to door to these people and "asked" for the guns so they could run ballistics. Every person complied.

That was an eye opener.

but the nation as we know it will be gone

I was at the grocery yesterday. This is Oklahoma. There was an employee there, some fat, slovenly man with a girl's haircut and a nametag "Michelle."

This nation's been gone for awhile. I don't know where I am a lot of the time lately.

Quite. Most realize: when you start shooting, your life is effectively over. They’ll be out to find you (think DC Sniper or Boston Marathon Bombing responses), and likely will. The stress you’ll live with will be enormous. It’s not a game, they won’t just sit there and take it.

Best to resolve peacefully while talking is an option. I’ve been following the issue for decades: all the trash talk, rhetoric, and legal wrangling has ensured little has changed for a long time.

If 1% of gun owners resist the US government is in for an IRA type existence and their employees will more than likely be the targets of choice. Yes the feds with the military can come in and take whole areas and cities and yes they can send in kill teams, but they can’t be ever where at once and when their large presence pulls out what do you think is going to happen to those left behind who supported them? It would get real ugly real fast.
