Turkey has been a mess for years under the increasingly despotic and incompetent leadership of Turkish President Erdogan.
The economy has been declining and suffering major problems with inflation and a decline in the value of the local currency, the lira, and Erdogan has launched increasingly vicious crackdowns on the opposition while breaking ties with former allies like the United States.
The Turkish people have finally gotten sick of this, and Erdogans party suffered a major electoral defeat last week in several major Turkish cities. Erdogan responded to his defeats about as well as youd expect, and throwing around hysterical claims of vote fraud.
Anyone want to bet on how long it will take before he jails the opposition candidates and annuls all the elections that went against him?
Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said electoral authorities should annul Istanbuls local elections due to irregularities, notably over the appointment of ballot box officials, the pro-government Sabah newspaper reported on Wednesday.
Initial results show the main opposition Republican Peoples Party narrowly won control of Turkeys biggest city in the mayoral elections, seemingly bringing an end to the 25-year rule there by Erdogans AK Party and its Islamist predecessors.
Speaking to reporters on his plane, returning from a trip to Moscow this week, Erdogan said that regulations requiring that ballot box officials be civil servants had not been met everywhere, with regular workers placed in charge in some places.
Our colleagues have established this. Naturally all this casts doubt. If they take a sincere view, this will lead to annulment, he said.
A senior AKP official said on Tuesday it would demand a new vote in Istanbul after its bid was rejected for a citywide recount of the March 31 election results after a series of recounts since the vote.
Sounds like they are the Turkey version of Democrats...Doesn’t it?
Have we retrieved the nukes yet?
Andrew Gillum, too...
Turkey is not a democracy, and how they are governed is none of our business.
Well, I won't be upset if the Turks send him there, but I wouldn't bet on it.
And whether they do or they don't is none of our business.
Democracy and Islam just don't mix. And, as I suspect we are about to find out, democracy won't work here, either.
Reversing the election seems inefficient. Why not
simply call the undesired winners Gulenists, arrest them, and move on? /S
Has he talked to Hillary and the U.S. ctrl-left yet? they sure have been trying, Maybe they could give him some advice.
