I wouldn't put a child through that, and I wouldn't let this animal live that long for the boy to grow up some. I think he should just disappear without a trace.

While it might be satisfying to make a public example of him expiring in some painful way, just removing the problem swiftly and permanently is effective. Also, people's imaginations would run away with them - what *did* really happen to him??? ... only one or two people would really know if he screamed and cried like a little girl, begged for mercy, lost control of bodily functions etc. But everyone would wonder.
