NEW YORK (Reuters) - Democratic U.S. mayors said on Friday their cities would welcome illegal immigrants, dismissing President Donald Trump's threats to transport people detained at the border to "sanctuary cities" as illustrating the White House's callous approach to the issue.
Trump confirmed on Twitter that he wanted to transport people detained in his immigration crackdown at the U.S.-Mexico border to sanctuary cities, an informal designation for localities that refrain from assisting federal immigration authorities in detaining people living in the country illegally.
Mayors from across the country were quick to respond to Trump's latest portrayal of immigrants and sanctuary cities as threats.
In New York City, where nearly 40 percent of the population are immigrants, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Trump's immigration policy was rooted in cruelty.
"He uses people like pawns," de Blasio said in a statement. "New York City will always be the ultimate city of immigrants – the President's empty threats won't change that."
In Philadelphia, known as the city of brotherly love, Mayor Jim Kenney said in a statement that his city "would be prepared to welcome these immigrants just as we have embraced our immigrant communities for decades." He said the White House was demonstrating "the utter contempt that the Trump Administration has for basic human dignity."
The Republican president has made cracking down on illegal and legal immigration a centerpiece of his administration, and has regularly threatened to try to cut federal funding to programs in generally Democratic-leaning sanctuary cities, counties and states.

Whether this was the ‘plan’.....have someone casually say “We even discussed but rejected the idea of busing illegals to sanctuary cities”, let it sink in, get some guffaws THEN have PDJT say “What is wrong with that idea”, then sit back and watch the aneurysms and fake heart attacks etc etc etc grow, while people in whose heads PDJT resides have nervous breakdowns.
I will continue to push for the President to sign a proclamation/edict/Executive Order that EVERYONE must inhale and exhale every few seconds.
Then watch heads explode as the snowflakes and lil’ darlins’ hold their breath in defiance.
Hopefully many will assume room temp swiftly.

In my small city, we already have two “Little Mexicos”. One on the south side and one on the north side.
In early US, immigrants had to be citizens and 7 years before they could vote. This thing about dems wanting all the illegals and open borders, for votes to get them back in power. Get it changed back to civility.
How did they get to the point illegals voting? They don’t even have to show ID any more in some states. Why can’t we stop illegals from voting. Seems it’s pretty iffy and careless to get to where non citizens can vote in our federal elections and someone didn’t see this being a problem and not letting it get to that point.
Too many years the GOP let the dems do whatever they wanted and now, here we are. The likes of Ryan... he let too much go by and sat on his thumbs... I guess they thought they could get Trump out and have it their way. Did not happen.
Sadly they will not be dropped in their posh neighborhoods they live in

We can’t stop an invasion on our own border? I guess I’d have to agree, as I don’t see it happening only more reports of this caravan and that heading over. And rhetoric about shutting down the border and building walls. We needed it to happen yesterday. So much for being the world’s “superpower.” Where’s out army? Oh that’s right, can’t use it for defense. Wth? The democrats want us to become third world country and it seems we are powerless to stop it.

When I lived up in the Seattle area, there are little everything’s around that town: little Sudan, little Mexico, little Ethiopia, little South American nations, little just about every Latin American, Africa, Middle Eastern country is in that city. When 9-11 happened, I think it was little Sudan ran into the streets and celebrated, jumping up and down and phrasing their false god Al-somebody. Never heard of that guy growing up. They were all called false gods in our church. Today, this Al guy is even preached in some of America’s apostate churches!! They shout and hoot that this Al is the same as the God of the Bible. I declare that a lie!!! There is only one God and He IS the God of the Bible, since He wrote it. But, our false teachers and preachers, IE: Benny “the Hen” Hinn, Rich Warren, Joyce Meyer, Rick Jointer, and a pile of others are all saying ole Al who ever the h-e-double toothpicks he is, say he is the same as Jehovah God of the Bible. Sorry, he ain’t the same as my LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ!!!
Notice how the advocates of the ILLEGAL immigrants now always try to steal the “immigrant” mantle by denying the word illegal even exists and denying the MORAL distinction between those who come here LEGALLY, and those who intentionally transgress the law coming here.
Yes they are scared because they are about to get what they asked for.
I think Trump is playing a game in which the mayors of sanctuary cities welcome illegals, so Trump will send all the new migrants into their city to overwhelm them. Judo.
I think he should double down and send illegals from red states into blue states to really ramp up their pain.
It is a huge gamble, but in the end it will turn these mayors into people who will eventually want to deport all these parasites.
