In October 1924, the federal government threw open for public inspection the files that recorded the incomes of American taxpayers, and the amounts they had paid in taxes. Americans were gripped by a fever of interest in the finances of their neighbors. This newspaper devoted a large chunk of the front page to a list of the top taxpayers in Manhattan under a banner headline that read J.D. Rockefeller Jr. Paid $7,435,169. One story reported that a number of wives and ex-wives had lined up at a government office in New York to seek information about their present or former husbands. Journalists soon began to note the curious absence of some conspicuously wealthy people from the lists of top taxpayers.

The immediate outbreak of fraud, ID theft and other crimes would be cosmic in scope.
Would that also show all of those who get more back than they paid, the abuse of the EITC ... or would there be a privacy exemption for anyone who got more than they paid??? The Dems wouldn’t want the citizenry to find out just how much was being drained away.
Gee, I wonder where the Clintons stand on this.....
Publish the names of everyone on some form of federal and state welfare.
“The immediate outbreak of fraud, ID theft and other crimes would be cosmic in scope.”
I agree. Along with liberal politicians constantly stoking the fire of economic class warfare, this would be a disaster.
I wonder if Dianne Feinstein and Nancy Pelosi support this?
Feinstein moved about $2 billion of taxpayer money to her own company. Pelosi on one occasion moved $700 million to a company her brother was on the board.
How about the celebs? I would like to know who really owns the mansions they live in (the studios), the studios disclosing what the actual cost of a film or tv show is? Naw, they would send more bribe money to congress.
Another really bad idea from the NYT. And people thought petty jealousies based on race, gender, or religion were divisive.
The not so petty conflicts arising from vastly different incomes for near neighbors would be even more widespread.
The scenes from the movie series “The Purge” would become a documentary.
These people are so transparent its a wonder they havent all been killed walking across the street.

I thought taxes were only for little people. 😁
The lists of The Worlds Wealthiest people never has a single Rothschild. Think about that for a bit before you decide on this issue.
How about everyone be required to go naked and be outdoors 24/7 so as not to “hide” anything, ever, from anyone else.
The Left will never stop in their zeal to destroy our civilization.
When he was running for president, Barack Obama refused to release his college records. I wonder why.
And it’s funny that New York Times never demanded to see them. You’d think a great investigative paper would be at least a little curious about those records.
This is just more class warfare and the push for communism. The US will not have socialism because we don’t have a royal class but rather under communism the leadership is the only ruling class. European states have socialism because the still support the royal families. China and Russia killed off their royals.
American communism will eliminate the Red Americans so we can have Blue Communists. Remember China’s purges and Russia’s purges, or Cambodia’s (The Killing Fields). I wonder how it turns out with everyone having guns they are trying to eliminate.
Look squirrel !!
Abolish the Sixteenth Amendment.
No point in having predators waste their time on po’ folk...
I second that.
Tariffs. The founders would approve.
Would that also show all of those who get more back than they paid, the abuse of the EITC ... or would there be a privacy exemption for anyone who got more than they paid??? The Dems wouldnt want the citizenry to find out just how much was being drained away.
An excellent point. Especially being over half of those who generate a W-2 pay zero taxes. And, of that population about half pay net negative taxes, meaning the get back more money than they paid in. Sucks....
