This means they are capable of pulverising an area the size of England and Wales or Texas...

8 megatons can't even come close to doing that. Maybe these tabloid Brits should open a science book sometime.

Well...the tabloid did get something wrong. The total for all warheads on one missile is more like 50 MT than 8 MT. It looks like one configuration would be something like nine 5 MT warheads. You’re still right, though, 50 MT won’t “pulverize” England. It wouldn’t be good though...

Here’s the “England” version of a representative strategic attack:

http://www.nuclearsecrecy.com/nukemap/?t=e410ef55b31441926f93d5ba088e7993

That’s nine 5 MT warheads, all ground bursts with heavy fallout. The largest circles on the map represent the range at which third degree burns would be sustained in the open.

The ovals represent fallout contours. The inner orange contour is 100 rem per hour. At that rate, four hours will cause severe radiation sickness, eight will result in a high death rate (90%+) after hours to weeks.

I chose that targeting pattern largely to maximize fallout coverage, but still managed to directly hit several high population concentrations. I’ll post a followup with estimated casualties, it takes NukeMap a while to calculate those...

One Satan-2 missile can cause a whole lot of heartache.
