Well, it’s more than a rule, it is a law, but that doesn’t preclude it from being BS, I’ll grant you that. This schools demands do sound like BS to me. The easier solution for whatever problem the school might be fearing would be to prohibit phones in the classrooms. Make the kids leave them in their lockers during the school day.

The world of school is a strange one. Take kids sexting to one another. At the school I taught at we were told that if we confiscated a kid’s phone, we had to have him or her turn it completely off. Under no circumstances would we or the principal turn it on. If there were a picture of the lad’s naked girlfriend on there, we were an adult in possession of child porn. Perfectly legal for her to send and for him to have (assuming the lad’s not over 18) but a felony for us. So the phone remained off until the parent came to fetch it.
