Should elected officials be allowed to gain access to the federal income tax returns of American taxpayers? When President Nixon tried to do this to get dirt on his political opponents he was deservedly condemned and Congress passed a law in 1976 to bar the practice. But now Democrats want to ignore that law to get their hands on President Trumps tax returns.
Section 6103 of the Internal Revenue Code guarantees the confidentiality of all our tax returns yours, mine and even President Trumps.

Interestingly, in 1986 a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia supported the law keeping tax returns private, finding in the case of National Treasury Employees Union v. the Federal Labor Relations Authority that taxpayer privacy is fundamental to a tax system that relies on self-reporting.
The judge was right.
Few people had heard of that judge in 1986, but youve likely heard her name in more recent years. She got a big promotion and is now Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. If she winds up hearing the case dealing with the fight over the Trump tax returns it will be interesting to see if she sticks with her position of 33 years ago, or adopts a different position to strike a blow against President Trump.
(My added emphasis.)

4th Amendment...................
I find it utterly disturbing that this could even end up in any courtroom, never mind the Supreme Court.
It would seem that having been involved with ruling on the issue previously, RBG must recuse herself
Even if she’s not there, her opinion while on the DC Circuit Court of Appeals could go a long way in persuading Roberts and the others to support PDJT’s position.
Right after we see Barry’s transcripts.
It seems to me that if there was no specific charge that the tax return was inaccurate, or revealed a crime had been committed, there would be no basis for any court judgment and thereby rejected by the court.
Don’t be silly
Ginsburg doesn’t hear cases. She regurgitates DNC press releases. You know how she will “vote” on an issue before the Supreme Court accepts it, let alone hears it!
The Dems should understand, the IRS and the Southern District of New York (U.S. District Court for) has poured over everything Trump has done since the 1970's (every page and every detail on every page).
Assistant DA's and IRS lawyers know well that a career could be built on bringing down a big game trophy like Trump. Of all the big game beasts, Trump is one of the few who has lasted for years and years and has lived his life out in the open (and in the press) for everyone to see. The man or woman who brought down Trump might even go down in the history books.
But here come the Dems looking for something that greedy Assistant DA's and IRS attorneys might have missed in perhaps millions of hours worth of digging.
I guess Trump figures it is better to lead your enemies down a dead end street than let them spend their time on battle plans that might actually work.
“Looks like PDJT has a good chance of winning this one. “
This will go 9-0 in favor Trump. Not one justice will vote against this because it sets us on a course for retaliatory politics and if somehow Trump lost this, and still wins in 2020, every Democrat member of congress, the deep state and liberal businessmen will have their tax records exposed.
Best to stick with the law.
We all know the answer to that.
Looks like PDJT has a good chance of winning this one.”””
We ALL would be winners.
If the President must present tax returns...so must every other elected “official”
Yep. I agree with that.
bkmk
Trump must counterattack hard. File a Section 1983 action whereby under color of law certain individuals are trying to deprive him and his family of their civil liberties. Sue their pants off, and sue them personally.
