Bad optics, but in absolute terms it ended well. The Mexicans acted relatively respectfully, returning the sidearm to the vehicle, and everyone went home that night. Because it made the news, it’s not going to happen like that again, probably patrols won’t be individual vehicles or have some sort of QRC nearby to back up contact incidents. All the armchair rambos out there need to take a deep breath and maybe a cold shower. Not everything is a schlong measuring contest.
Mexico is overwhelmed, infiltrated by the cartels, and barely functional as a government. Yeah they need to do a lot better, but you don’t get them serious by shooting up their troops at the least little provocation like you’re in a damned video game. Needlessly escalating a border patrol misunderstanding into a full scale force on force hot war serves no public interest... not ours, not Mexico’s.

Trump is screwing up by send troops to the border unarmed. He should have given orders if threatened, shoot to kill. What in the hell is he thinking of. I’m really getting pissed.

I’m having a very easy time believing this. The military brass has done nothing but drag there feet and posture that they have no interest in defending our borders. It would be no surprise at all if they had some pansy ROE written to keep troops from ever engaging the Mexican police/army.

Clint, TX - Two U.S. soldiers were held at gunpoint and disarmed by Mexican troops on American soil on April 19.
CNN reported that the Mexican troops were armed with assault rifles. U.S. officials said the U.S. soldiers allowed the weapon to be taken in an effort to de-escalate the “potential volatile situation.”
"Throughout the incident, the US soldiers followed all established procedures and protocols," Northern Command said, according to CNN.

Yes they have been doing this sort of thing for decades...at least once I know of they flew into AZ in a helicopter and shot at Border Patrol.
Mexican military has been crossing the border for decades, have been videoed helping drug smugglers, have harassed Border Patrol, ranchers, other residents. Once that I am aware of they blew threw a Port of Entry, when returning a few minutes later they were questioned and said they had gone to get sodas...without bothering to even stop at the Port. An incident I personally witnessed- a Mexican tank came right to the border fence, parked and aimed the tank turret right at the US Port of Entry. The tank sat there for around 20 minutes and when the men got out and off of it they were laughing at their great little joke.
When caught crossing or across the border...Mexico always claims one of two stories:
1) Deny it was military at all, claim must be cartel people dressed as Mexican military.
2) Claim they were not aware they had actually crossed the border...it’s all a big misunderstanding you see...
It is past time for this country to stop allowing that BS.

Seems to me the Mexican soldiers should have warmly greeted the Americans and joined forces for a common mission - turn back the invaders.
