A new Morning Consult poll shows that Medicare for All falls just short of majority support (47%) but that 31% of Republicans support the policy, which is being championed by socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and other 2020 Democratic candidates.
The poll, which surveyed 6,600 adults and has a margin of error of 1%, showed broad majorities support some form of federal health insurance that would be available to all Americans, though support was higher for policies that would be optional.
Morning Consult noted that support for Medicare for All had fallen since the 2018 midterm elections, thanks in part to Republican attacks on the policy, as well as revelation about its likely cost ($32 trillion over 10 years, which would increase government spending by 68%, based on the FY 2020 budget of $4.8 trillion).
Support has also dropped as the legislative details of the Medicare for All policy have become clearer including the elimination of private health insurance, and coverage for illegal aliens and for abortions, among other features.
Still, Morning Consult notes, there is broad support for some of the policys aims, even if not its precise details:
The poll found that despite the abyss between partisans on health reform, most people want the same thing: a system in which everyone has health insurance, and the right to choose where they get it from, without going bankrupt. And with many months ahead to litigate the merits of Medicare for All, the data suggests the proposals proponents are on more fertile ground than its detractors to bring the public to their side.

Adults....
I just hope I’m retired before they try it.
Everyone wants free stuff!
Need a link to the “West Side Story” song “Everything’s Free in America”!
Hillary won if you believe polls.
The polls predicted a landslide for Hillary. Long live Madame President.
Socialism has been here awhile, since about November 1932 when FDR was elected. It was pushed along even more by LBJ who did more to destroy our form of government than perhaps any politician ever in office.
Sorry...sounds like BS to me.
They don’t have a clue about the devastation to the economy and loss of jobs that would trigger but most of them are RINOs and need to get out of the Trump party!!
Single payer as an entitlement is inevitable.
The only remaining issues are, will there be a private sector, will the private sector be allowed to sell services “covered” by the government plan, and who will own the hospitals.
Since the shock of 1986, hospitals have evolved into highly sophisticated cash harvesting machines. Nobody - and I mean nobody - is happy with how they have turned out.
Do these stupid people know that they will not have private insurance from their employer and that they will stand in line for government medical care?
After the 2016 Presidential election polls you would think “We The People” and the media have learned their lesson about the reliability of polls.
These polls must be taken with a grain of salt.
First, the poll is of “adults” not likely or even registered voters.
Second when these uninformed “Republicans” find out what it’s going to cost and the taxes it will take to fund that cost, the % drops down to about 10%.
He!!, less than half of Democrats support it when they are informed of the cost.
Likely made up of the standard low-information Republican primary voters who support candidates like McCain, Romney, Boehner, Ryan, Murkowski, et al., ad nauseum.
Because almost 100% of everyone hasn’t been taught the incredible value and economic common sense of the Free Marker Economy. They have been brainwashed - utterly steeped in Keynesian (socialist) economics.
Freedom is not longer taught in government schools. Why? Because freedom is the ABSENCE of government and its force and coercion.
The Republicans were the wapo news room. There polls are written in hell.
So if true; 31% of republican voters are utterly clueless about how socialist healthcare works.
It shouldn’t be up to a bureaucrat - government or insurance company - to decide whether you get medical care or not and on what schedule.
Free stuff. Like free heroin.
“LBJ who did more to destroy our form of government than perhaps any politician ever in office.”
Yes.
