The NeverTrump movement is on life-support
LA Times ^ | APR 24, 2019 | DAVID AZERRAD

NeverTrumpism is not dead, but it is on life-suppor. Were it not for the news media’s eagerness to amplify the voices of those who hate the president, the movement would have long since been relegated to the more obscure corners of the internet.

It is increasingly difficult to distinguish the NeverTrumpers who claim to be on the Right from the anti-Trumpers on the Left.

Among conservatives, NeverTrumpism is already a fringe and irrelevant movement, its ranks having been decimated by countless defections. A handful, led by Max Boot, have abandoned conservatism altogether. They are not missed.

The leading NeverTrumpers in Congress have either retired (Sens. Jeff Flake and Bob Corker), become irrelevant (Sen. Ben Sasse) or died (Sen. John McCain). The flagship publication of their movement, the Weekly Standard, folded at the end of last year. Its online reincarnation, the Bulwark, has none of its clout or reach.

The president’s approval rating with Republican voters now stands at 89%. By comparison, Obama’s was at 80% with Democratic voters at the same time in his presidency.

The case for NeverTrumpism has completely collapsed. Not one of the overblown doomsday scenarios that President Trump was supposed to unleash on humanity has panned out. The economy hasn’t collapsed. Fascism hasn’t come to America. And we aren’t at war with the world.

The president has an impressive record of conservative accomplishments. Trump has cut taxes, pursued an aggressive deregulatory agenda, boosted the defense budget and appointed two fine justices to the Supreme Court as well as a record number of appellate judges to the federal bench.

The economy is growing, unemployment is falling and wages are rising. Trump has arguably done more to advance the conservative agenda than any other of the 16 Republican candidates he ran against would have.

Don’t kid yourself, the dims hate conservatives. They only hate Trump because he represents us, they were cozy with him until he ran as a conservative.

The dims that have TDS would gladly march us into re-education camps, or worse. We are the ones they really hate.

Never-Trumpers were never conservatives, they were always Bush League Republicans eager to sell out the citizens at every opportunity.

Yep.

I understand why people could initially doubt Trump. My impression of him wasn't favorable based on what I had seen of him on "The Apprentice." But he won me over in the debates and I made hours of calls for him at the local Republican call center.

I can understand being skeptical of him all the way through the election. His conservative actions in office won over skeptics like Mark Levin and Greg Guttfeld. So-called conservatives who are still never-Trumpers obviously aren't conservative if they don't like the most conservative president we've had in years.

Agree. I suspect #NeverTrumpers are in on the take. They are benefiting financially in some fashion. Cheap labor? Trafficking? Drugs?

Then there are the treasonous coup members who believe they will be somebody in the NWO. They are too stupid to realize that they will be the first people taken out by the NWO if they get their wish. I feel nothing but contempt for them.

Lord forgive me.

I'm sure the Lord understands. Boot is loathsome.

“Wouldn’t the “never Trump “ movement, by definition, already be dead?”

not really. because most of them, like the Dems, persisted in pretending Trump wasn’t legitimately elected due to russian collusion and/or should be removed via the 25th amendment ...

The never Trump movement will be remembered like the never Washington, the Never Lincoln, the Never Reagan movements.

It’s astounding and alarming how so many alleged “conservatives” could have misread President Trump so badly.

This kind of complete ignorance requires either willful blindness or true dysfunction. The possibility of a combination cannot be ruled out.

Simple common sense was all that was ever required to understand DJT. Everything about the President and his background has been on full display for decades. The charges about his racism/fascism/sexism/anythingism are absolutely absurd; and an affront to our intelligence.

The man owned a plethora of businesses and employed gawd knows how many people. Where are the complainants? The videos? The voice recordings? The massive lawsuits? The Nation’s Most Obnoxious Drama Queen and Parasite, Gloria Allred?

And, Dems/NTs, do *not* try to tell reasonable people that the President quietly settled all of the dozens and dozens of secret complaints. DJT does not settle. And, the stupid ideologues among them would have fought to the death for free. Hell, they would pay for for the chance.

So impossible was it to find usable trash on the President, our “intelligence” had agencies to conjure a completely deranged tale about hookers peeing on the President that was most likely an expression of the author’s fantasy life.

There really hasn’t been anything from Hot Air worth posting for years. Personally, I think they should have closed up shop when they gave Robert Spencer the boot-certainly when Michelle left.

The irony is that Donald Trump is probably the only thing that (momentarily) injected some life into Willard’s rotting corpse of a presidential campaign.
