Well, its official. Biden has (for the moment) survived the onslaught of women who felt victimized by his wandering hands and nose and is hoping the third time is the charm for his presidential aspirations. And the stakes couldnt be higher for him. Biden isnt simply putting his legacy on the line, but also the legacy of Barack Obama.
The Democrats leftward shift has made their party more extreme compared to what it was in the days of John F. Kennedy, or even Bill Clinton. The Obama years continued that trend, with the Democrats going all in on abortion without restrictions, government-run health care, transgenderism, massive government spending, slavery reparations, felons voting, and a full slate of radical positions as they embrace socialism. That leftward shift has continued since Obama has left office, which poses a big problem for Joe Biden.
Riding on Obamas coattails is undoubtedly Bidens biggest advantage in the 2020 field, but its also his biggest weakness. Right now he has the name recognition, which certainly is helping him in the polls at this point, but as Barack Obamas vice-president, Joe Biden becomes the face of the Obama years. In a party racing further and further to the left, his primary opponents will do everything they can to paint the Obama years as insufficienthaving not gone far enough for a party that will settle for nothing less than the most radical of positions anymore. Democrats' past love for Obamacare has been replaced by the movement for Medicare-For-All. Democrats' past support for strong border security (and even a border wall) has been replaced by the desire for open borders. At the moment, it appears Bidens approach to these issues might not be what the partys base wants.
According to his campaign website, Biden wants to defend and build upon the Affordable Care Act. Will that be enough for the party that now wants to eliminate private health insurance completely? His website also says he wants a humane immigration policy and that putting people in cages and tearing children away from their parents isnt the answer. Does anyone really believe that none of his primary opponents want the nomination badly enough to point out it was the Obama-Biden Administration that separated families at the border and put kids in cages?
Be ready, Joe, it's coming. The bottom line here is that now that Biden is in the race, other 2020 Democrats wont be able to say they want to return to the good old days of the Obama-Biden administration. To do so would only benefit Biden. So, we can expect Bidens primary opponents to go on offense against the Obama legacy, at least to some degree. This means Biden will either have to defend Obama policies, which by todays standards arent radical enough for the Democratic Party, or hell have to break with Obama. This is not a good position for him to be in. Without Obama, Biden has been nothing but expendable to Democrats.
Bidens long record wont help him either. The Democratic Party has proven itself to be less concerned with experience, and more concerned with identity politics. Compared to his primary opponents, Barack Obama was the least qualified candidate of his party in 2008, but quickly overcame them all, save for Hillary Clinton, in what became a battle over whether their party wanted to nominate a black candidate or a woman candidate. They may have chosen the former, but it was understood that the womans turn would be next. And so Hillary was preemptively anointed as Obamas successor, leaving Joe Biden behind despite his being a more experienced (and much more likable) candidate.
Its true that Biden appears strong at this point, but that also makes him the main target of a crowded field of Democrats desperate to win the nomination and be the face of the partys battle to defeat Trump. They will talk about his inappropriate behavior with women, they will talk about his past opposition to busing and his working with segregationists. Theyll talk about Anita Hill, and his racially insensitive comments from the past. And theyll tie him to Barack Obama and blast the Obama years if thats what it takes to take him down.
Democrat primary voters this year appear to be very fickle. Last month, Beto ORourke was all the rage but now appears to be fading. More recently, Pete Buttigieg has shown be a force to be reckoned with, but Sanders seems to be more consistently strong. Bidens first week as an official candidate is likely to be his best. His favorability is already showing a decline, which is exactly what happened to Hillary once she was out of Obamas shadow and campaigning.
By jumping in the race, Biden is putting his entire legacy on the line. I wouldnt want my legacy to be Obamas number two, either, but if theres anything we learned a few weeks ago when all those women started coming forward it is that things are about to get ugly. If Biden fails in his third attempt to win his partys nomination, that will be the lasting impression of his political career. Hell be the man whose party rejected him three times, who started off on top but was thwarted by #MeToo accusations, and a history of not being "woke" enough for an increasingly radical party.
Nice turn of phrase.
Obama legacy.
Not even a hint of scandal
0bama has a legacy alright.
Bringing us to #4 in competitiveness.
2 credit drops.
Basically being a quitter “Managing a nation in decline” 0bama’s words.
Yup, the coke head, and the pedo did nothing but cause the U.S. to decline.
Legacy?
Democrat politicians are being advised to announce that they are candidates for President for two reasons:
1. To try and hide bribe money.
2. To claim that any legal proceedings brought against them are purely political.
So this is Joe Biden’s chance at “My turn”?
Does not past performance mean ANYTHING to the powers that control nominations? Biden unsuccessfully sought the Democratic presidential nomination in 1988 and in 2008, both times dropping out after lackluster showings.
And how does Gropin’ Joe hope to overcome the years of allegations that he is just a little too fond of touching and smelling hair? Remember, there is LOTS of photographic evidence, and some first impressions, once formed, are hard to shake off.
Add to that the tarnish that has fallen on his son Hunter, who has ties with the Ukraine government that have apparently paid very well, and the apparent “assistance” that Joe provided to Hunter in acquiring this very lucrative cash flow. Inquiring minds want to know.
I believe Hunter (or if not him, Beau) also got a deal as an adviser to a Chinese investment firm after flying there with Joe on Air Force 2. So, the Ukraine deal wasn't the only one.
The details are in Schweizer's "Secret Empires" book.
bammy’s legacy (FAILURE) is intact and will remain so.
Trump has trashed Obama’s legacy in two years, After the next 6, Obama will be a footnote on how bad a POTUS can be elected.
Biden has no fire in the belly. How hard is he willing to work? Obama probably wants Harris or Booker unless Michelle is the Vice President pick.
If push comes to shove among the democrats, the media is going to protect and promote the new whacked out far left progressives at the expense of Biden. So if that means having to allow the light of truth to shine on Biden and the incredible 8-year destruction he co-authored with Obama, then that’s what’s going to happen.
Looking forward to it.
His risks his Obama legacy of flubs and gaffes? Crazy Uncle Joe.
Since 1960 the Democrats have won the White House with candidates who came out of left field - Kennedy, Carter, Clinton, Obama - and have lost the White House when they ran party establishment - Mondale, Kerry, Hillary. The odds of Biden winding up in the White House are somewhat slim.
Article is spot-on.
Biden has put himself in the position of having to explain to the Radical Left why the administration he was part of did not usher in an age of Socialist Nirvana when they had eight years to do so.
Biden stumbling around trying to answer that question is really going to undermine whatever legacy Obama may have at this point.
Is Biden another Bob Dole or John McCain? It is his turn?
The difference is Biden doesn’t like anyone who voted for Trump.
Joe Biden has a legacy?
Who knew.
Where to you log Humphrey ?
Legacy? They were in power for eight years and accomplished ... nada. Oh! Sorry, my bad, they did kill OBL but even that was almost botched, at least according to the movie. And Barry has yet to endorse him so ...his chances of getting the nomination is at best a long shot. What’s more, IIRC, he voted for the Iraq War so his chances are slim. But legacy won’t come into play.
Question I have is about the culpability of the perv and his son concerning the Ukrainian episode. Would Barr have the nads to indict if illegality is proven? just a thought
