The State of Texas will hold an Emergency Preparation Supplies Sales Tax Holiday this weekend, giving Texans the chance to stock up on essentials.
"I know the weather's good and people aren't thinking about bad weather, but as you know, a couple of weeks ago, the Cap10K was rained out for the first time in its history, a lot of people are still getting out over Hurricane Harvey," Kevin Lyons, a spokesperson for the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, said. "We know this is the time of year where there's potential for severe weather."
Since 2016, the first year when Texans could take advantage of this sales tax holiday, until now, the Texas Comptroller's office estimates Texans saved just a little more than $5 million. This year, it's expected Texans will save around $1.6 million.
"It's never too late to be thinking about emergency supplies you need," Lyons said.

I hate sales tax holidays. Sure I like saving money, but they are nightmares for the retailers figuring out what is taxed this week. And they reek of social engineering with the government pushing you into what to buy. Instead just reduce the tax by 0.1% (or whatever) for everything for the full year.
I noticed a week or two age that the National Weather Service and Hurricane Center upgraded Hurricane Michael to a category 5. They did this after studying records and issued an 81 page report.
I was out of power for two days but many areas were out for months. I don’t know how they did it. I had enough battery back up and etc. to get by fine on TV, Radio and internet. Still it was strange at night to lie in bed in absolutely totally black darkness. Flashlight beside the bed and plenty of lithium powered rechargeable lanterns for when I needed light.
I did lose a lot of food.
Michael was one of the 3 most powerful hurricanes to hit the mainland, yet we have received no Federal aid at all other than FEMA.
For those who are unfamiliar, Texas has no state income tax and does not tax most food items.

And may the dear Lord above in all earnestness grant Texas the grace to remain a RED state. If we go Purple, or worse, BLUE..... look for taxation on everything.
