President Trump tweeted Saturday that Fox News analyst Andrew Napolitano met with him and urged the president to nominate Napolitano to the Supreme Court, as well as grant a pardon to one of the judge's friends.
Napolitano, a former superior court judge in New Jersey, currently works as a legal analyst for Fox News. In a pair of tweets Saturday evening following his campaign rally in Green Bay, the president accused the commentator of becoming "very hostile" after Trump supposedly turned him down for the nation's highest court.
"Thank you to brilliant and highly respected attorney Alan Dershowitz for destroying the very dumb legal argument of Judge Andrew Napolitano," Trump wrote.
"Ever since Andrew came to my office to ask that I appoint him to the U.S. Supreme Court, and I said NO, he has been very hostile! Also asked for pardon for his friend. A good 'pal' of low ratings Shepard Smith," the president added, referring to the afternoon host of Fox's newscast that has often been critical of the White House.
The White House did not immediately return a request for comment on when the conversation with Napolitano occurred, or to whom the Fox News commentator had supposedly asked Trump to pardon.
Trump frequently showers praise on Fox News figures that are seen as allies of his administration, including Dershowitz who has frequently defended the president amid the now-concluded investigation into Russian election interference and his campaign.
So Trump is above criticism? Did you t
One can like Trump in many ways and worked to get him elected and donated money, all of what I have done. But that does not and will not prevent me from cringing and criticizing when he acts like a child.
I cannot understand the chidish remarks for doing so directed at me.
Nap is truly not worth Donald’s ire.
Maybe he says it because it’s true.
And?
Then?
Not in a long time. Something radical happened. The judge always seemed well informed and reasonable. Then he got suspended and he's made a bizarre left turn ever since. He's become totally unwatchable.
And I trust dersh as far as I can throw him.
Like or dislike Dershowitz he's never been coy about his politics. He would never vote for Trump but he does defend him on legal grounds. Napolitano has become blinded by his ideology and lets it lead his legal arguments.
I trust Dershowitz to generally defend civil liberties. The pendulum on these things has swung fast and far. People I once thought were Liberal have since showed their authoritarian colors. There is an opportunity for part of the left and right to come together to push back against the authoritarianism - which exists on both sides but is shockingly on the rise among “liberals”; speech codes, shrugging off justice inequality and reform, quotas for every special interest group you can think of, disdain for rights protected by the Constitution, callous disregard for abuses of power and many other issues one might have a generation ago associated with the American left have been abandoned by them. The American left has gone totally off the rails because imo they stand for nothing, so they fall for everything. They are after power at any cost, for the sake of exercising that power and at the expense of individual liberty.
>>> Napolitanos longtime friend James C. Sheil died on March 19, 2013.
>>> friend...
Napolitano asked Trump to pardon someone who died in 2013?
Agreed,
No, James Sheil was Napolitano's longtime "friend", but he's not the friend he wanted Trump to pardon. Now, Shep Smith is Nap's "friend".
Please, when was the last time he made a positive comment about Trump?
And Dick Morris was asked to be a political analyst for the 2016 election....
Napolitano hasn’t been an actual judge since 1995.
Anyone want to have surgery done by an ex-doctor who hasn’t picked up a scalpel in 24 years?
Clannish people.
Fox News (FNC & FBN) needs to clean house and get rid of its deadbeats, starting with the retarded Judge, Chris Wallace, Shepard Smith, Neil Cavuto, etc. Fox could really own the entire Cable TV world if it structured its product correctly. The TV viewer numbers for folks like Cavuto, Wallace, Smith, Cavuto and the Judge are terrible to say the least!!!
Napolitano is Eddie Munster who grew old. Never matured.
F Napolitano.
This is how you drain the swamp. Media included.
“Even friends argue.”
And sometimes kill. I always remember the scene in RIFIFI where, after a heist gone wrong, the main honcho tells a subordinate, “I really liked you, kid. But you know the rules.” Bang!
In another era, I can see Trump saying that. With a twinkle in his eye.
No. Paul Ryan is Eddie Munster when he grew up.
There can only be one.
Well maybe you can vote for a Republican more to your liking in the next decade. Maybe a Romney or a McCain.
Just a friend ?
