Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez blasted Kellyanne Conway for trying to “stoke suspicions” about her Christianity after the White House counselor questioned the rookie lawmaker’s “silence” to the massacre of hundreds of Christians in Sri Lanka.
“On Easter I was away from tech visiting my grandmother in Puerto Rico, which continues to suffer from the White House’s incompetent disaster response,” Ocasio-Cortez responded to Conway on Twitter. “Are you trying to imply that I am less Christian? What was the point of you bringing this up on national TV?”
”You are using this as an excuse to stoke suspicion around my Christianity + faith life, @KellyannePolls,” the New York Democrat continued in another tweet. “The Sri Lanka massacre was horrifying. No one should be targeted for their religion. If you’re so moved, let’s do more to welcome immigrants fleeing religious persecution.”
Conway was defending President Trump’s remarks that there were “very fine people on both sides” about the “Unite the Right” rally in August 2017 on CNN’s “State of the Union” when she took a shot at Ocasio-Cortez.
“I see officials who get a lot of airtime and ink, like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, congresswoman, who tweets many times about the mosque but never once about Sri Lanka,” Conway told host Jake Tapper.
