US Navy Rear Adm. John Ring, the commander at Joint Task Force - Guantanamo, has been relieved of duty "due to a loss of confidence in his ability to command," a press release from the Department of Defense said.

US Army Brig. Gen. John Hussey has been designated acting commander, according to the release. Hussey was currently serving as the deputy commander.

"This change in leadership will not interrupt the safe, human, legal care and custody provided to the detainee population," the press release said.

Sometimes these things happen.

But I am wondering, was this because he was too tough on those poor terrorist detainees, or not tough enough.

Hmmm...

Wonder if there are any ulterior motives, like a bunch of new arrivals imminent.

Maybe, maybe not.

“Loss of confidence” is political-correctness speak for discharging officers who don’t implement the gay/transgender agenda with enough enthusiasm.

Most stuff at Gitmo is not related to detainees; Naval air base, deep water port, and things like meteorology.

Field McConnell says he thinks it will probably happen sometime by the 10th or 11th of May, if I remember correctly.

I have no doubt that happens.

Is it possible in the Age of Trump that “loss of confidence” has changed 180? Might it be applied to commanders who are OVERLY implementing the gay agenda?

We lost 3 commanders of the local Marine base in one year for loss of confidence after Obama required adherence to the gay agenda.

I have a doctor friend who volunteered to serve as a part-time doctor in the Air Force Reserve. He said Officer Training was overwhelmingly focused on political correctness and what you could and could not say. He says in the Air Force it permeates everything.

Is there any publication about weekly events in that location, sort of a Guantanamo Gazette?
I didn’t know there was still enough going on to require the presence of a Commander.

One curious aspect of this story....this guy arrived in April of last year, and publicly noted that the facility was in a deteriorating condition. There was at least one or two major sources who noted his comments at the time.

Chances are, he was correct. Lots of updates were/are needed there. That would mean diverting more of the budget to some areas, while depleting funding to others.
Our president is running into the same kind of resistance.

The Commander may have stepped on too many toes of the old guard; the Lifers who prefer to maintain the status quo until they have safely retired with full pension. If you want your new boss to look bad, there are always ways to slow walk any real change, or sabotage behind the scenes.

Cokehead Sorkin and meathead Reiner didn’t expect so many to relate to Col. Jessup’s full speech here:

“Nicholson would later comment on the $5 million he received for his role, “It was one of the few times when it was money well spent.”[10]”

Funny how in that clip that Nicholson and his manner seem ‘normal’ while Cruise and his rant comes across as a spoiled brat throwing a tantrum - stomping his feet and holding his breath for effect...

Guess one gets that conception when it is felt that someone is ‘miscast’ in their role...

I remember a movie ‘Rio Bravo’ where Dean Martin cast as a Sheriff(at least he was a drunk sheriff) and Ricky Nelson as a gunslinger just didn’t come across correctly (IMNSHO)

At least J Wayne was there to keep order and Angie was good ‘eye candy’.

Hard to believe that a 3 Star Admiral could be fired from a sensitive job without a direct order from Donald Trump.

Someone needs to ask the President what happened.
