LONDON A British court sentenced Julian Assange, the WikiLeaks founder, to 50 weeks in jail on Wednesday for jumping bail when he took refuge in Ecuadors Embassy in London seven years ago.
His complex legal travails are far from over: The United States is seeking Mr. Assanges extradition for prosecution there, and officials in Sweden have left open the possibility that he could face criminal charges in that country, as well.
Mr. Assange faces a charge of conspiracy to hack into a Pentagon computer network; a federal indictment accuses him of helping an Army private to illegally download classified information in 2010, much of it about the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which WikiLeaks then made public. He has denied the charge.
Mr. Assange, 47, was arrested on April 11 after the Ecuadorean government withdrew its protection of him and allowed the police to take him out of the embassy in London, where he had lived since 2012. The same day, he appeared in court and was convicted on the charge of skipping bail.

50 weeks for bail jumping?
Heck, he should have just stabbed an Englishman or groomed some pre-teen girls, and he would just get a “stern talking-to.”
They will kill him in prison. He needs to be extradited to US and placed into protective TRUMP custody.
When you think about how the UK helped Hillary/Obama AGAINST Trump, I’d say THEY have as much to hide as our “Deep State”.
AS a member of “5 Eyes”, they helped spy on American citizens where the CIA could not.
Christopher Steele, author of the infamous Dossier, is a former MI6 agent.
I’ll bet the UK “Powers That Be” have a keen interest in ensuring Assange stays on their script, or dies in their custody.
I hope the Brits do a better job of protecting Julian in jail than they did for Tommy Robisnson.
You’re probably correct.
