I wonder if part of what we are seeing, is because they have so long been planning/preparing and impeachment (staffing up, planning traps and narratives, etc.), that things are happening of their own momentum. They stood up an impeachment campaign plan with people hired/assigned, and had their scripts and strategies written.
Now that the rug was pulled out from any substance for impeachment, they may just be triggering their perjury traps and contempt of congress designations, because it is just what they happen to have at hand.
As reality diverges more and more from their plans, their actions will probably get more and more out of touch.
I think we will see their decision cycle really get really overwhelmed when the scandals start getting dumped in earnest, and some of them start scrambling and flipping to save themselves.
