Hungary is ready to promote the development of Europe-China relations through cooperation between China and central and eastern Europe, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said in Beijing at talks with President Xi Jinping on Thursday.

Orbán, who is attending the Second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing, expressed firm support for the Belt and Road Initiative, calling it “an opportunity rather than a threat”.

Orbán said that “the Hungarian government and people cherish the extraordinary friendship with China” and that Hungary is optimistic about China’s high-tech development and welcomes investment from China.

The Chinese president noted that “this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries and China looks forward to working with Hungary to bring the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level.”

Italy too. They're already 100% in on China's 'Belt & Road' initiative.

Orban and Salvini talk the talk and walk the walk on lots of conservative initiatives, but with their openness to China, Russia (or Turkey and Iran in Hungary’s case) —> they are not necessarily Trump’s or America’s best partners. So far, Poland has proven to be our best ally.

I think you are right about this.

Orban has done a lot right; his stance on islam, refugees, and his intense hatred of Soros.

But, this new stuff, I don’t know.

Poland has not wavered.

Hungary is still a developing country compared to many nations in Europe. They need investment. Orban realises he can’t rely on the EU and has gone to China for help. I would rather see Hungary make closes ties with America but I understand what he is doing in trying to help his nation grow.

So a Catholic is making deals with Catholicism’s biggest enemy outside of Islam, just to make his country grow. Never mind the same ideology that crushed his country’s rebellion against it back in 1956. All to spite the USA?

Hungary and Italy can be used as wedges against the Communists in Brussels.

A mistake to have close relations with Red China, a mistake the US had been doubling down on for about forty years until Trump came along.

and that Hungary is optimistic about China’s high-tech development and welcomes investment from China.

Why not seek closer relations with the nation from whom Red China has stolen most of "its" high-tech development, and from whom it continues to steal.

To the Chinese, industrial espionage and patent and copyright violations are cutting edge research.
