Yesterday, out of the blue, I clicked on Howlin's Facebook page and learned that she'd passed away. I found her obituary and learned that she had departed on September 19, 2018 at the age of 72.
She was a mainstay at Free Republic and her last post there was on April 22, 2007.
I liked her a lot and I will miss her.
The problem is that the horse was already out of the barn by the time FR was on the scene. CA turned to the dark side effectively with the 1996 elections and never looked back. Even if every member of this forum from the 1997-2016 period been militantly closed borders and against the corrupted RINO Establishment and its hacks and flunkies, it would’ve made virtually no difference in the national outcome.
Telling the truth is not speaking ill of the dead. Your memory serves you correctly. It is crazy how the old orthodoxy, and those who tried to ruthlessly enforce it on this site, has been turned on its head,
I am sorry to hear pf Howlin’s passing. I had wondered what she and the rest of that group were doing these days. I actually came across sinkspur on Twitter. He apparently was thrown off every FR spin-off forum he joined. He still uses his old screen name, however.
He is a hate-filled Democrat now (seriously, he openly avows his support for the Democrat Party), tweeting insults like mad, and ignored by nearly everyone.

No. Unfortunately, that issue wasn’t taken seriously by a lot of people. Even, for a time, I was indifferent to it. I even found myself taking the stance, “Well, the ones who want to come here to work, yada yada yada...” That changed when the “open borders” problem moved next door to me and spent 7 years reminding me daily that we had just about lost our country. :-(
Makes you wonder if these deranged and disordered souls weren’t just leftist trolls all along that were here to damage and destroy FR.
Oh, I am so sorry to hear this. Yes, she was a very important FR member from early on. America will miss a patriot!

I guess I agree. It was more interesting then, with deeper issues being discussed it seems. Better organized. Thr FReeper Ball (Return The Silverware?) is an example.
But we sure do have some fun now, especially during the 2016 election, Trump elections, etc. Bottom line: Things change.

My friend was banned over a rather innocuous anti-Bush post way back when. It wasn’t even anti-Bush. She just made fun over some of the female FReepers’ swooning over W’s manliness, his “package”, etc. In any case, she was banned. Perhaps Howlin was the culprit.

It was Borax Queen who changed me into a rabid border nut. Or should I say national sovereignty believer. I had to hear what was really happening from a soldier on the front. Took me a year of conversation to change my mind. But change it I did. She was 100% right. Howlin was wrong.

Never have I thought that what we were doing with people at our borders was a good answer.
I always thought the Bush’s were trying to save the servant class and their buds at the chamber of commerce.
Years ago I thought that there were two different directions that the country could go.
Either travel the slow way and slowly bring working people worldwide up to our level of wealth.
Or the hard way and drop our level of working wealth to meet the low level world wide.
