THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

HAROLD ARLEN

THE WIZARD OF OZ: “OVER THE RAINBOW”

This is early Frankie from the Axel Stordahl era in the Forties, and he shows that the song is not the exclusive property of female vocalists.

My favorite version of "Over the Rainbow" is sung by Sherman Hayes with Del Courtney & His Orchestra, a "sweet" band (as opposed to a swing band) from Hawaii. This recording is very rare. When I found it on the Internet Archive today, I heard it for the first time since Ronald Reagan was president.
