Mike Pompeo said Iran-backed militias moved rockets near American bases in Iraq

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told Iraqi officials that U.S. intelligence showed Iran-backed militias moved missiles near bases housing American forces.

Pompeo made the disclosure to Iraq’s top brass during his surprise visit earlier this month, Reuters reported. The revelation comes just hours after all non-emergency personnel at the U.S. Embassy in Iraq was ordered to leave the country.

He asked the military officials to keep the Shi’ite militias in control as they are expanding their presence in the country and now are part of the country’s security apparatus. The top diplomat warned that otherwise, the U.S. would have to use force to tackle the security threats.

It was a Tweet but here’s another source.

The State Department on Wednesday ordered all non-critical government employees to leave Iraq and warned American citizens not to travel to the country over fears that growing tensions between the Trump administration and neighboring Iran could spark a conflict endangering them.

In a statement announcing the decision, officials cited a “high risk for violence and kidnapping” and said “normal visa services will be temporarily suspended” at the U.S. embassy in Baghdad and the U.S. consulate in Erbil. Some employees in Baghdad “will continue to provide consular services to U.S. citizens in Basrah,” the statement said.

Bush II went to the wrong country IMO

And yet after tens of thousands of American lives destroyed or irreparably damaged, and trillions of dollars pissed away on military campaigns in these Islamic dumps, you're going to sit there with a straight face and insist to me that we'll get it right this time?

Don't make me laugh, dude.

your comments are not a breakdown by you try and non-responsive to the discussion. If you want to make case try Saudi Arabia for example. But sharia sunni doesn’t work country by country.

Not exonerating them at all buffalo breath. I am just saying Iran is responsible for maybe 10%-15% of terrorism.

Also, just for fun, you can be a practicing Jew, Christian, or Zoroastrian in Iran. Try that in Saudi Arabia and you’ll be dead.

The 19 Saudis were out cast radical followers of Usama bin Ladin

Yes, that’s the cover story. And they were funded through bake sales

I heard the same rationales for invading Iraq Lots of lives and trillions of dollars lost over that mistake. I’m pretty confident Trump , who denounced the Iraq War , isn’t going to repeat it by invading Iran

Shia nations are basically Iran and Iraq. That accounts for the huge majority of Shia. Sunni nations are Saudi and their gulf state emirate playgrounds, and most of the rest of the moslem world. So it is naive to discuss countries.

This is a sunni shia civil war. And the US is a sunni government.

they were supported by employees of the SA government as they moved around the US starting with meeting in Sand Diego. This was redacted by Bush II from the 9-11 report and Obama un-redacted it the year before he left office.

naive to discuss countries with resources to develop bombs and ICBMs I’d laugh if your comment wasn’t so ridiculous. You may not be aware Obama gave the Iranians money back so they could continue with terrorism and weapons development. name a group that has the resources of iran, pakistan, or SA. you can’t become there are none. That’s how naive I am.

Looks like Bibi and Bolton are trying to make Trump a one term President.

We can’t afford a war with Iran at the moment, our national debt is too big.

The first big red flag you should notice in any of these silly reports about Foreign Policy Issue X (whatever "X" happens to be) is that they invariably come from two types of sources:

1. "Intelligence agencies" whose primary role is not protecting the interests of the United States, but compiling and disseminating propaganda to feed to the American public to promote political support for something that is completely against their own interests.

2. Non-profit think tanks that are established with a political agenda in mind, and do nothing but put an academic spin on whatever bullsh!t their financial sponsors are peddling.

No offense, but Item #1 should be a non-started for anyone with half a brain on FreeRepublic. After what we've learned about the U.S. intelligence community over the last two years, I'm genuinely shocked to find a single person here on FR who considers them even remotely credible.

Item #2 can be ascertained with some research about the board members and financial supporters of these groups. When the Saudi government donates $1 million to the John McCain Institute for International Leadership at Arizona State University (just to give an obvious example), you can be sure it's not because they once visited Arizona and had fond visions of establishing a camel breeding ground there.

I guess well wait till they fire a nuke on europe or israel or send one toward our coast on tanker. great stuff. Iran doesn’t deny developing the weapons, they say they have the right to of it. you are letting a fiasco overrule your brain f and effect the wy you see future threats.

Consider the possibility Bush attacked Iraq because saddam plotted to kill his father when he went to Kuwait to receive his reward.

In a statement announcing the decision, officials cited a “high risk for violence and kidnapping” ...

Interesting. A "high risk for violence and kidnapping" points to domestic threats within Iraq, not a military threat from another country.

we missed the real bad dudes dude and now they are developing weapons that’ll reach europe and the US eventually dude!

And yet Europe doesn't see Iran as a major threat.

For that matter, Europe doesn't see Iran as a major sponsor of terrorism because a lot of the "terrorism" is tied to political groups like Hezbollah that a lot of European governments recognize as legitimate political factions.

Take the threats from Iranian leaders seriously. Do you deny their development of ICBMs do you deny their nuke program? no one else does. do you deny the terrorist acts listed in the links I posted.

You called me naive and your type of naiveté will get hundreds of thousands killed.

Europe LOL Please. That’s the point, no one wants to face it. When several European countries are run by sharia Iran won’t have to attack anyone except us and israel.

I’m tired remediating you.

Later!
