Former GOP Rep. Carlos Curbelo (Fla.) turned up in Washington on Wednesday for a Ways and Means hearing on climate change even though Democrats fearful he could use the event to bolster a reelection run had removed him from the witness list.
Curbelo went to the hearing anyway, and before it began told reporters his removal was a reflection of what is wrong with Washington.
What it has done is expose, again, the reason why things don't get done here, and why the big issues don't get resolved. Because too many people are focused on their own personal political interest, too many people are focused on getting reelected, and not enough people are trying to build a consensus, he said.
Curbelo, a centrist Republican who narrowly lost his reelection race last fall, was initially invited to appear at the hearing by Ways and Means Chairman Richard Neal (D-Mass.).
Neal rescinded the invitation under pressure from other Democrats, including Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), who according to a report in Politico initially asked Neal to cancel the hearing entirely.

Curbelo is an open borders Bush League Republican.
In other words a DemocRAT who has managed to infiltrate the GOP. Got it.
“Curbelo, a centrist Republican”
Democrat
The last “Centrist” Republican to go anywhere was GWB.
Voters have learned a great deal about the Swamp since then.
Only a fool or a infiltrator runs as a Centrist Republican.
He’s a backstabbing, Romney loving clown..
More trash from The Hill of trash.
Maybe so, but this isn’t a hearing about open borders. It is a hearing about climate change. If the Dims are stacking the witnesses and allowing no dissent to be heard, that is a problem no matter which side you are on.
Curbelo = 70% lifetime leftist rating.
Why is it that such losers don’t accept that they are complete losers and slink away in oblivion. Surely he can get a washroom attendant job in some small obscure rural Indian casino.
“Curbelo, a centrist Republican”
Would rather have this than a radical Democrat. It helps with getting back the majority.
