California Sues Trump to Keep $1 Billion for Ghost Train to Nowhere
Breitbart - Politics ^ | 5-22-2019 | Joel B. Pollak

The State of California sued the Trump administration on Tuesday over the Federal Railroad Administration’s decision to cancel a nearly $1 billion grant for a high-speed railway that the state admits it no longer intends to build as planned.

Last week, the federal government followed through on its threat to cancel the $929 billion in funding, which it made earlier this year after Gov. Gavin Newsom announced in his “State of the State” address that it “would cost too much and, respectfully, would take too long” to complete the high-speed rail project, which originally was meant to connect San Francisco to Los Angeles. Newsom said he still wanted to complete part of the project in the rural Central Valley.

But President Donald Trump said that California should return the $3.5 billion he federal government had spent on the understanding that the state would be building a train that could travel between the two cities in under three hours. The governor disagreed, saying: “This is CA’s money, allocated by Congress for this project. We’re not giving it back.” He later claimed that Trump’s efforts to claw back the money were “political retribution” for California’s lawsuit against the administration’s attempt to construct a border wall — one of dozens of lawsuits it has filed against Trump’s policies.

There must be a mistake in the article. Not sure about the “$929 billion” funding number.

Federal dollars should not be spent on California disasters.

You could tell by Newsoms press conference that he knows he doesn’t have a leg to stand on.

The Courts are the Democrats friend.

However I don’t see how they have a leg to stand on. If the Federal Government gave money for a certain project and that project is cancelled then they should have the right to withdraw the money.

But you never know how a liberal judge will rule (oh of course we do, but we can hope anyway)

No mistake. That's an "oopsie" because they divulged the actual cost after accounting for all graft, corruption, union "fees," featherbedding and enriching of all Democrat pols from coast-to-coast.

Maybe it’s just me....but you’d have to reach X-station to start your trip, and that requires a car, and car-parking (probably charging you $25 for a full-day of parking, each day). Then you ride this 3-hour train to reach the final city...where you stand there and ask how to do anything beyond that station. Seems like you’d been better off just driving 6 hours and having your car there to use.

And if this whole rail trip was $400 round-trip....well, who would pay that?

“Not sure about the “$929 billion” funding number.”

Yeah. In order to be consistent with previous paragraph, that should read “$929 million”.

Yes, I never understood the logistics or economics of this trail. Just another boondoggle that CA used to fleece the US taxpayer.

Silly you. The Hi-Speed Rail is not for peons, its for your masters in the upper class, so we can laugh and drink and dine in comfort as we enjoy the country side view on our way to and from posh social gatherings that you would never be invited to, of course. Really, if you have to ask how much it costs, you are only fit to carry my luggage.....

Hope the sarc tag isn't necessary FRiend.

There was a book Bankruptcy: A Feast for Lawyers by Sol Stein.

Actually the feast is the Trump presidency.

Every kook, weirdo, low IQ activist and Dem (sorry I repeated myself there) sues Trump- - - - -

to keep terrorists from Arab countries flowing in as immigrants without a pause, stop the Wall,

stop police and ICE from questioning or holding criminal illegals in sanctuary cities,

stop voting officials from asking “are you a citizen of the United States?” and countless other things.

Everything Trump does except for bathroom breaks results in a lawsuit and an order by a little judge in CA,OR or HI.

I should have kept quiet. Jerry Nadler will be saying “about those bathroom breaks by Trump. We have search warrant here....”
