Trump Says Iran Nuclear Deal Possible as Sanctions Bite

President Donald Trump said on Monday a deal with Iran on its nuclear program was possible, crediting economic sanctions for curbing activities Washington has said are behind a spate of attacks in the Middle East.

"I really believe that Iran would like to make a deal, and I think that's very smart of them, and I think that's a possibility to happen," Trump said during a news conference with Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in Tokyo.

"It has a chance to be a great country with the same leadership," Trump said. "We aren't looking for regime change -- I just want to make that clear. We are looking for no nuclear weapons."

Tensions have risen between Iran and the United States after this month's attack on oil tankers in the Gulf region.

Washington, a firm backer of Tehran's regional rival Saudi Arabia, has blamed the attacks on Iran, which denies the accusations.

The United States has deployed a carrier strike group and bombers to the Mideast region and an extra 1,500 troops to the Gulf, prompting fears of a conflict.

Trump's comments came after his national security adviser John Bolton said on Saturday that the United States had "deep and serious" intelligence on threats posed by Iran, without providing details.

The sanctions were really working by 2013 and the mullah regime was in real trouble. History will show that Obama and Kerry saved the mullahs. If Trump does nothing but keep up the sanctions, Iran will soon be desperate and depending who makes the decisions will either fight or fold. Suspect they will not go down without fighting.

Iran will never deal. The people must stand up and fix their own problems. PDJT does not need another failed coupe like the US instigated one in Venezuela.

Any deal with Iran that is not rigidly and minutely enforced and inspected is as one-sided as anything Barak Husssein would have done. Killing the mullahs is probably a prerequisite to any rational deal that has a chance to succeed. I did not say “remove” because the mullahs will rule regardless of their nominal status.

Iran is now ruled, and has been ruled since 1979,by 9th Century knuckledragging pig fornicators.I think it's far,*far* more likely that Rocket Man (and pals) will come to their senses than it is for these knuckledraggers to do so.

Call me a pessimist...

i regret to have to say this (and it is projection, I have no insider info)

but anyways,
I do not believe even a skilled negotiator like PDJT can get a worthwhile nuclear disarming deal from the Iranian dictators

1. the dictators are NUTS in their openly threatened intent to destroy USA (and their nukes are their best weapon to do it)
2. the dictators want to take over the rest of the region’s oil fields...and their nukes are their easiest way to intimidate, get control over the shipping lanes, etc
3. PDJT is very much weakened by JFKerry (biggest war hero since McArthur) and HIlLIARy and others undercutting his negotiating efforts...telling the Iranian dictators to NOT deal with America...at least until they can finagle their way back into power

that last point is especially harmful for PDJT’s efforts....
and may well lead directly to warfare that PDJT could have avoided
2.

I don’t know how they can come up with inspections that actually work, to ever be sure Iran isn’t still quietly cranking away until the day they pop off a test nuke, and then its too late.

The problem isn’t Iran having a nuke. Its Iran ruled by mullahs with a nuke.

“We aren’t looking for regime change”

Bolton is deeply saddened.

No. They have to go. And die. Horribly. Let the people revolt, and let them rip the ayatollahs to shreds. Kill Ahmadenijad and all the "12th mahdi" bullshitters, too. Replace them with Western agnostic leaders who are young and tired of Islam and all the misery it brings. .

When Iran boasts about "one missile" and their "secret weapons" that can wipe out our fleet, they are talking about Russian super-cavitating torpedoes, for which we have no defense, and EMP weapons that would take out multiple ships at once.

When their missiles explode at 5000 feet, most people laugh and say "Hur Hur Dur! They can't even launch a rocket!" But they are testing detonations at the most effective height for EMP weapons.

Trump is awesome. Squeezes the mullahs with intense sanctions, offers olive branch... dipped in hemlock.

“”I really believe that Iran would like to make a deal”

I have not seen any indication that Iran wants to make any deal unless it comes with pallets of cash.

Despite what has been said and what might be said, Trump has NO intentions of dealing with the mullas. His goal is regime change and the mullas know it.

Whatever calm we may see on the surface about Iran, all allied duck legs are paddling like crazy below.

A return of Iran to the people will be a major blow to political Islam in both the ME and the world.

Plus it would be a major feather in POTUS's cap and a thumb in the eyes of Obama and Kerry.
