Should All the MLK Statues Come Down?
Rush Limbaugh.com ^ | May 28, 2019 | Rush Limbaugh

Posted on 05/28/2019 3:30:50 PM PDT by Kaslin

RUSH: Quick question, ladies and gentlemen, should all the statues of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King now come down? Should all of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King boulevards throughout America be renamed?

I ask this because of a story that you can’t find in the Drive-By Media. You cannot find it. It ran over the weekend, but you can’t find it. “Sealed FBI audiotapes allege the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had affairs with 40 women and watched while a friend raped a woman, according to a report.” FBI documents from the sixties… And we don’t doubt the FBI, do we?

These FBI documents from the sixties allege that Dr. King had affairs with 40 woman and stood by as a friend allegedly raped a woman. The biographer David Garrow claimed in memos that King engaged in orgies, solicited prostitutes, and looked on and laughed as a pastor he knew raped a woman. Not a word from the Drive-By Media on this story.

Imagine what they would say if these things were recorded about Reagan or Jefferson or Washington!

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Now, the allegation of the FBI tapes is made by a biographer, Dr. King, David Garrow, G-a-r-r-o-w. He claims to have unearthed tapes that showed Dr. King was involved in extramarital affairs with 40 to 45 women. Let’s see, in whose league would that put him? Clinton? I’m trying to think… Wilt Chamberlain? We’re close. Who am I leaving out here? Oh, the Kennedys. Yeah, how could I forget? Yes. Absolutely.

Garrow, by the way, this biographer, is an American historian and author. His book is Bearing the Cross: Martin Luther King Jr. and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. He won the 1987 Pulitzer Prize of biographies. The guy is a Pulitzer Prize winner and he claims to have heard these tapes that the FBI has. The article constantly claims the surveillance was ordered by J. Edgar Hoover, but Hoover did not order the surveillance of King. Do you know who did? Robert Kennedy! Robert Kennedy was the attorney general… It was the Kennedys that were trying to defame Martin Luther King.

Once again, the Democratic Party. Robert Kennedy was the attorney general; he ordered this surveillance of Martin Luther King. And everybody blames J. Edgar Hoover for this. But in this case it was actually Bobby Kennedy.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Clarks Summit, Pennsylvania. This is Vince. It’s great to have you, sir. Hi.

CALLER: Mr. Limbaugh, it’s an honor to speak to one of the greatest men in this generation. Thanks for having me on. My question is this. With all the information coming out about Martin Luther King, do you think the left will use this as an opportunity to turn on him? Because if you study King fundamentally his message is one of religious conviction and about each individual person coming from God, like you speak about. And the left, that’s completely contrasting to the left’s modern message. Do you think the left will use this to neutralize and dismiss King?

RUSH: Now, the initial reaction to your question would be, “No way. They got way too much invested in Dr. King. They’re never, ever gonna turn their back for obvious reasons.” However, there’s a — what would you call it? — generational shift. And to Millennials and others, some of the defining and tent pole identities and characteristics of, say, the Democrat Party, the civil rights movement, are not nearly as valuable or valued or heavy as they were to previous generations.

However, the left and the Democrats have already moved on from what Dr. King really believed in and who he really was long ago. Dr. Martin Luther was known for many things, but one of the most profound things he said in that great “I have a dream” speech was that he looked forward to a day where his kids and everybody would be judged on the content of their character, not the color of their skin.

Well, the Democrat Party has at no time embraced that. They’ve erased that. They have erased that from what Dr. King said. They have totally reconstructed what Dr. Martin Luther King believed in, starting with his devout Christianity, his devotion to Christ. They have totally remade the image of Dr. King. The Democrat Party has become exactly what he hoped to overcome. They have become wedded to and embedded in racial identity and sexual identity politics. The content of one’s character is of the least consequence.

The current iteration of the Democrat Party doesn’t even want to see people as different and individualistic enough to even make judgments on character. The Democrat Party is grouping people according to various other things, like victim status, racial status, sexual orientation, sexual preference, bathroom preference, you name it.

I think that they have already successfully remade, if you will, the image or message of Dr. King to the point that there’s no reason to have to abandon it or him. They’ve already turned him and his memory into a message tailored for their modern-day beliefs. And he was nowhere near what they have made him out to be. So there’s no reason to cast him aside.

Well, based on a largely uncorroborated accusation, an overall poor understanding of history, and a ridiculously weak ability to control my impulses...

Of course.

MLK Day should be renamed to #MeToo Day. All the streets named after him should be renamed #MeToo.

Where are all the libs? Seems they would be outraged having a holiday for a sexist and person who pressured women into sex.

People under 50 don’t even really know who he was. They don’t know his speeches. They sure don’t know my fave-the “mountaintop” one.

Then there’s his whole commie-not commie thing.

Someone on FR, a LEO, IIRC, used to write about the lingerers who took over once King and crew left. Druggies, robbers, and rioters, the lot of them. THOSE were the ‘crowd’ that loved King.

Then there’s the plagiarism thing. It’s hard to imagine plagiarizing a thesis, since the bloody thing’s hard to do in the first place.

In fairness, when King said that black people were being judged on their skin color rather than the content of their color. So he was against it for obvious reasons. Now it's official leftist dogma that white people are to be judge on their skin color rather than the content of their character so it's not a slam dunk that King wouldn't support that all of a sudden.

Just sayin'.

I was saying this LAST YEAR when confederate statues were coming down.

Just based on beating the @#$#$ out of prostitutes, which has been known forever, I said he should be pulled down.

Let me have this moment. I dont ask for much in life :)

I will withhold judgement until I see the evidence and see it proven that it wasn’t created by Hoover or minions.

How about we just acknowledge that MLK was a human being with flaws (like the rest of us) who also accomplished some great things (unlike the rest of us)? Maybe then we can also stop vilifying Thomas Jefferson, Winston Churchill and other great men who also happened to be human.

And yeah it would have been front page above the fold if it had been about Goldwater, or Reagan or ANY Republican...

Leave Byrd the Green Bank radio-telescope. He did arrange for the funds for it to be rebuilt.

The Rats and their hateful racist Congressional Black Caucus will NEVER face the truth about MLK. NEVER.

Neither will the LIARS in the Rat fake news media.

MLK didn’t just have an affair, he had multiple affairs and participated in many grotesquely perverted orgies. He was a SICK b@st@rd in his sexual appetites. He definitely led a double life.

The left is getting what they’ve asked for but I feel bad for his family; this should’ve been brought out while he was alive.

There is no winning argument here for the left. Either MLK had some personal demons, or the FBI is still as corrupt today as it was when they spied on MLK — back when Robert Kennedy authorized FBI wiretaps and Hoover tried to strong arm or blackmail him by threatening to expose (and possibly fabricating letters) infidelity.

Personally, I say leave MLK alone. All this talk of tearing down statues reminds me of the Taliban blowing up those historic Buddhist carvings. There is much to learn from historic figures - good things and bad things. Their statues and street names are not shrines to their sins, but to the good they did for the country. Leaving them intact allows us all the opportunity to learn and to teach. You cannot erase history by destroying statues, in fact to do so is an act of denial that only punishes ourselves.

But, there is a lesson here for the left... They should stop being so reflexively defensive of the US Intelligence apparatus. In fact the left used to be most skeptical in part because of how the FBI and DOJ acted towards legitimate protests by African Americans in the 1960’s and 1970s (and up through the post 9-11 ME wars) but once these agencies became weaponized as partisan political tools for the left they became cheerleaders.

I suppose if we can ignore a BJ Clinton rape we can likewise forgive Michael King.
