Grandfather and father of McStain. The ship is commissioned as named after THEM.
In July 2018 7th Fleet commander added in John McCain III, procedurally... as a “namesake” along with his kin. This was an afterthought from the commissioning of the ship, an Arleigh Burke class DDG missile destroyer.
