Buttigieg says he wouldn't have pushed Al Franken to quit when he did
CNN ^ | June 3, 2019 | Dan Merica, and Donald Judd

Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg said Monday he would not have called for then-Sen. Al Franken's resignation in 2017 over sexual harassment allegations before having the opportunity to learn more about the claims.

The comment puts Buttigieg at odds with a number of his opponents in the Democratic primary, including New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who was the first to issue the call, California Sen. Kamala Harris, New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker, Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren. "I think it was his decision to make, but I think the way we basically held him to a higher standard than the GOP does their people has been used against us," Buttigieg said at a MSNBC town hall.

"I think the way we basically held him to a higher standard than the GOP..."

Has anyone in the GOP been seen doing this?

Still no policies worth anything, yet a lot of words.

His city is abandoned, probably better off with him away.

He may not have “pushed him to quit”, but I bet he’d push in his stool

I am still kinda surprised they threw Franken under the bus. His immaturity was known to all from his days as an alleged comedian. It’s not like he was ever a guy one would take seriously.

Same here - we're talking about a U.S. Senator, someone holding one of the highest elected offices in the land - and Al gets taken down for a juvenile prank. IMO, the #MeToo crowd needed to sacrifice a few men on the political left in order to build credibility. They were preparing the battlefield, so to speak, for the real targets like Kavanaugh.

Why does he think those other people DIDN’T push Franken for an explanation before calling for his resignation? Does he think his fellow democrats are all corrupt?

He’s pretty clueless about the current state of political sex crimes, isn’t he?

Republicans had a few big names. Every one of them was rejected.

Meanwhile, Franken is the ONLY democrat I know of who actually was forced out for allegations of sexual misconduct — and we had an actual picture of him assaulting a sleeping female.

Meanwhile, democratic voters re-elected Clinton, and ever since they’ve been electing abusers. The most recent being Keith Ellison, re-elected as AG after two women credibly accused him of physical assault.

And of course, the Virginia Lt. Governor is still in office, after two separate, credible democratic black women accused him of similar sexual assaults.

The only reason Franken was thrown out was to help beat Moore — and Moore was beaten, in part because a number of republicans decided not to support him.

Funny he said that, because it was one of the most honest things the Dems have done in the last 20 years. Firing Franken, was a big event and they didn’t play their typical hypocrite game like they are doing with Gov Northam.
