The colossal weight of decades of congressional failure has landed in the tiny border town of Sunland Park, N.M., a bit west of El Paso, Texas.
It arrived, seemingly overnight, in the form of tons of steel and whole lot of hype.
Mayor Javier Perea barely had time to blink.
In the span of a week, national and international press descended. And a ribbon cutting was held on May 30 for what was billed as the nation’s first privately built border wall. A GoFundMe account raised the money through the donations of more than 300,000 people giving an average of $67 each to We Build the Wall.
Maybe the gullible donors believed the pontifications delivered by organizers at the dedication. There was the claim that this half of a mile section of 20-foot tall bollards would actually stop the migrants who are streaming to the nearly 2,000-mile long U.S.-Mexico border. Or the more laughable contention that the drug cartels were shuddering at the prospect of everyday Americans donating their hard-earned cash to fund more sections like this on private land.
(Reality check: Mexican drug cartels generally smuggle their shipments of marijuana, heroin, meth, fentanyl and cocaine into the U.S. at official ports of entry. And the seemingly unrelenting numbers of Central Americans seeking asylum are legally presenting themselves to border agents.)
The Sunland Park media circus was orchestrated by an assortment of current and former MAGA luminaries now deemed too radioactive even for Trump administration.

There’s no middle ground to be found with the likes of these.
No doubt Mz. Sanchez knows a lot of illegal squatters who have no right to be in this country.
1) Again, POTUS needs to declare a national emergency and get serious about it. Close the border and station ARMED troops to enforce it. They're not going to take us seriously until the shooting starts.
2) Tariffs and harsher sanctions against Mexico until the drugs and illegals stop.
In a fair world it would seem racist to suggest that illegals are necessary to pick our crops rather than have Americans pick their own crops.

You are absolutely right. This mess is just an incoherent word salad of pejoratives. All that seems to come through is “Trump and Republicans are evil.”
She seems to believe “we need to enact comprehensive federal legislation” and all will be well. In liberal minds, there’s nothing that another new law (which will be as ignored as all the current laws on the books) can’t cure.
All their efforts to stop the Wall, and a bunch of bitter clingers, Deplorables, smelly Wal-Mart people interfered. Who let them get away with that?
