Trump on Twitter: A big and beautiful day today!
God s peace shine down on you Mr. President!
A D-Day reference?
Thanks for posting.
I agree
I must be getting old, I enjoyed that.
We fought major wars on two fronts. Thank God for that generation. MAGA
Eisenhower had a great love and appreciation for his NCOs and met with the boys that were jumping ahead of the invasion. Ive read a lot about the man. I believe it ripped him up to give the go for the landing. He was a good man in an awful position. He made the right choice, Im not sure I couldve done it. If not ours, Im sure it was Ikes Longest Day.
I’m willing to bet my next paycheck on that. (Oops, I’m retired!!!)
But I imagine he was overflowing with AMERICAN Pride...and to a good extent, pride in his British roots as well
Ain’t retirement grand? Woo-hoo! Lazy days...
71 thumbs up!
But not many lazy days here on the plantation
At the opening scene of Animal House, they showed a statue of Faber, the college founder, with a quote: “Knowledge is good!” I agree...
Watching live right now on White House.gov. on YouTube.
Ceremony just beginning.
That’s a nice way to start the day. Particularly in memory of all those who lives on this day so long ago who would savor each word of this song so much.
I only wonder why they didn’t shell the crap out of the German positions for an hour before landing. Exposing the men to those hardened machine-gun positions was nuts.
I don’t have extensive knowledge of the events, does anyone here know why?
I kinda of wish Ike hadn’t given the go ahead. The USSR and Germany would have slugged it our for a few more years, eventually defeating Germany but weakening themselves into oblivion. If they had tried to hold all of Europe behind the Iron Curtain, they would have fallen apart almost immediately. Too many people to fight all at once, especially after a prolonged fight against Nazi Germany.
They did.
