De Blasio to ditch Puerto Rican Day parade to campaign in Iowa

Mayor Bill de Blasio must be loco if he thinks this is a good idea.

Elected officials and Big Apple residents reacted with disbelief and outrage Thursday after learning Hizzoner is snubbing the city’s National Puerto Rican Day Parade — a must-attend event for local politicians — to make stump speeches in Iowa.

The annual procession up Fifth Avenue — billed as “America’s largest cultural celebration” — kicks off at 11 a.m. Sunday, featuring 50 floats, 15,000 marchers and over a million spectators.

And there’s no record of a mayor ever ducking the 62-year-old parade. But the term-limited mayor and First Lady Chirlane McCray plan to skip the event — which celebrates the culture of nearly a tenth of the city’s residents, and some 5 million Americans — to spend the weekend courting votes in corn country ahead of the Hawkeye State’s first-in-the-nation 2020 caucuses.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who will be marching Sunday, was flabbergasted at the news. “I am without thought. My mind goes blank,” said Cuomo, his eyes wide with disbelief, during an unrelated news conference in The Bronx Thursday.

And Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. warned that de Blasio “shouldn’t take the Puerto Rican community for granted.”

“If he chooses to be in Iowa, I don’t think he would be greatly missed by Puerto Ricans or the majority of New Yorkers, because what do we need him here for?” Diaz, who is one of an estimated three-quarters of a million New Yorkers of Puerto Rican origin, told The Post at the same event.

So, not even New York 'Puerto Ricans' like Wilhelm?

And (haven't been there in decades), how many ethnic parades does NYC have? Puerto Ricans, Italians, Jewish, Greeks, what else?

To me they're all just a bunch of New Yorkers.

I bet he will be there for the homosexual parade. This year is special for homosexuals, as it’s the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall incident which is revered by homosexuals.

Ha, ha. I’m actually very Puerto Rican, in the sense that I was born and live on the island. But you couldn’t tell if you saw me, as I don’t fit the stereotype. In fact, I’ve lived in Alabama on and off several years so you could call me a Dixie Rican. :-)

As we say on the island, we’re Puerto Rican and that makes us Americans. or said in another way, can’t spell American without the Rican.

You left out the Irish St. Patrick's Day Parade, which was ruined by the homosexuals some time ago, but used to be THE most important ethnic parade, with a grand history.

It’s not too late to put another float in the parade.

“Look, Juan. Here comes the mayor’s float. What’s the rat supposed to be doing to him? Oooohhhhhhh.....”

Well, he is term-limited, so, no need to cater to them. He won’t be around for their votes, and if he ever got to the presidential debates, those Puerto Ricans would still vote for him. The Puerto Rican vote is locked-in for the democrats.

DeBlasio is looking at the bigger picture, and Iowa is in play, while NY is not in play, so, the Puerto Ricans don’t matter to him at the moment. It’s not about culture or respect for the Puerto Ricans; it’s about what’s important to DeBlasio and democrats as a whole.

I don’t think the Puerto Rican vote is locked in for the democrats. Not in FL, GA, TX, TN, NC, etc. A lot of people are missing that conservative/entrepreneurial PRs have been moving to the southern states in droves.

Which is why Democrats don't want people to earn success because they won't rely on their handouts and they will vote GOP for better tax and regulatory treatment for their pocketbooks.

I was talking about the P.R. votes in NY. They don’t know any different in that city and state. Besides, when all they have to choose from are liberals and a very weak republican in that state, then, the Puerto Rican republicans in that city/state might as well be invisible.

Well why not? He’s already ditched a NYPD cop’s funeral to protest against President Trump in Germany.
